I know it happened two days ago, but I was surprised this wasn't mentiuoned somewhere on this forum.
Anyhoo, Junior hit his career homerun number 511 to tie Mel Ott for 18th on the all time list.

that's because i don't start thinking about his career homeruns until he's near the next hundred mark. so i pay little attention until he's closer to 600. that said, time for the good ol'd sticky.

oh yeah, this series against Baltimore is the first time three guys in the 500 home run club have played in the same game. Griffey (512), Palmeiro (559), and Sosa (582).
Junior is tied with Ernie Banks and Eddie Mathews for 16th all time. he needs 9 more to catch up to Willie McCovey and Ted Williams.

With all the injuries the past few years due to playing on the concrete floor of the Kingdome, Ken Griffey Jr still has a shot at some big milestones: 500 doubles, 600 hrs, 1500 runs, 2000 rbi's, 3000 hits. Three thousand hits (3000) might be a long shot, but four years at (150) hits, who knows. In another forum some time back, I trashed Jr. for not hitting any meaningful home runs. Boy was I wrong. I went back and checked the box scores his first three years in the bigs, and he had many, many, big home runs.

He went 2-3 today, with 2 BB's. He also scored 1 Run, and had 2 RBI.
For the season, he is hitting a team leading .326.
The last 8 games, he has just been on a tear, hitting .467/.600/.867!!!

There's a guy who sometimes comes into the establishment I go to Monday nights, and he hates Griffey. Rips on him unmercifully while anytime someone (like Alex Gonzalez or Ryan Freel) does well, he yells at Griffey for not being like that player. He's been quiet lately, and that's been oh so satisfying.

He is hitting .323/.436/.573 for the season - ANYONE would be happy with that. THIS is the Griffey we have all kept our eyes out for.
In the current 10 game hot streak he is on, he is hitting:
.432/.533/.865, with 5 HR's, 10 RBI, 7 Runs, and 8 BB's!!!
He is now sitting just 1 RBI short of tying Harold Baines for 23rd place on the all-time RBI list, with 1627 RBI's.

Excuse my Mr. Allegry, but you seem to be mistaken. Griffey is now in 22nd place on the all-time RBI list, not 19th.
I'm not sure who he is leaving off his list, maybe some 19th century players?

HR #574 today for Griffey!!!
That gives him sole posession of 8th place on the all-time list.
Next in his sights is Mark McGwire, with 583. And if Griffey has another month like this one (.330/10 HR's), he'll be there soon.
At the beginning of this season, he was at 563 HR's, sitting a hole 37 away from the big 600. Seeing as how he has not had that many HR's in a season since 2000, and the slow start he had (only 1 HR in his first month!!!), no one thought he could have a shot at 600 this season, but with this hot streak he is on...is it again a possibility? Or will he cool off and fall short?
As of right now, he is on pace for 36 HR's, one shy of what he would need.

I want to bring up that Ken Griffey, Jr. has hit a home run in 43 MLB ballparks. That is 2nd to Sammy Sosa (45). The only park Jr. has not hit one in that is active is Nationals Park which the Reds will play in this weekend.

I clicked over to the White Sox vs Royals game tonight and Ken Griffey Jr. was up. One of the TV guys mentioned that Griffey and Stan Musial were born in the same town (Donora, Pennsylvania) and born on the same day (November 21st) in different years. Musial in 1920. Griffey in 1969. Stan is known as the man and Griffey is known as the kid.
This is a nice side note but I understand that this is a Ken Griffey Jr. Milestone Thread, so here goes: Griffey is a handful of doubles from 500 and a few runs away from 1600.

It should be noted that Griffey hit his 609th career homerun which places him in a tie for 5th All-Time meaning only Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, and Willie Mays have hit more homeruns.

Happy 40th to Junior! Griffey shares the same birthday (11/21) and birthplace (Dover) as Stan the Man Musial.
Actually, Griffey turned 39 on Friday the 21st. He and Musial were born in Donora, Pennsylvania.
