Hi.. I'm new here. I came accross this site while looking for some information.
Tex Shirley was my great uncle and the few baseball cards we have of his say he played for the Browns, so thats really all the info I have.

I'm trying to find more information on him.. how long he played, what teams, positions, averages, etc.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good sites I could find anything at or if you knew anything?

Thanks.

It's also worth noting that he was a key part of that '44 pennant winning Browns team and didn't yield a single earned run to the Cards in the two innings he pitched against them in the World Series that year!!!

For his 1944 season, check out Even the Browns, by William Mead.

The heck with Mead's book, check out mine, As Good As It Got: The 1944 St. Louis Browns (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0738531995/qid=1113358950/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-2950699-4784119?v=glance&s=books). :) Or both. :)

Either way, from what I can recall, Tex Shirley was a little wild off the field and on it (check out his BB stats -- but also his H/IP for '44, which was very good). Also, he liked to wear a hat all the time because he was balding!
