By completeing a book on the Yankee franchise from 1919 to 1923, including the building of Yankee Stadium, I came across the following:

During construction of Yankee Stadium in 1922, Jacob Ruppert wanted an on-site refreshment stand that would offer his own brewerys brand of beers such as "Ruppert Ale" and "Knickerbocker" for the workkers.

The workers were all for it untill they found out it wasn't free or even discounted. They would have to pay full price. Since it was prohibition the beer would also be watered down.

The City wouldn't issue a permit to Ruppert for his stand anyway. Ruppert
inturn threatened a lawsuite against the city. The workers became angry and threatened to boycott Rupperts beers.

Just another day of frustration on this near impossible construction project.

see: www.ruthlessbaseball.com if interested.

Don't remember the brands from my one & only trip to RFK. The local class A team the Hagerstown Suns (Nationals) serve Yuengling. The Frederick Keys (class A Orioles) serve the local microbrews, as well as wine from a local winery.

The Suns also serve italian sausage and brats. That'll make a game!!!!

Lafferty, great addition. Both the beer ad and the old scorecard are great. From the names I would guess that scorecard to be from 1962?

I believe that scorecard is from July 7 1966. Found it on ballparkmagic.com.

I love Hamm's slogan back then. "The one right beer for those who want another."

Thanks for such a quick reply. Schaeffer Beer had a similar slogan, The one beer to have when your having more then one.

Growing up near Rochester, NY in the 1950s I attended many games at old Red Wing Stadium. The main beer sponsor was Genesee Brewing Company, brewers of Genesee Beer. But Rochester also had the Standard Brewing Company, brewers of Topper Beer and Standard Dry Ale. Genny had a big sign in the outfield, but Topper and Standard were sold at the concession stands right along with Genny. Rochester was a two-fisted beer town in those days!

I'm a Celtic man, born and bred. Nice to see someone in the forum not ignorant to another amazing sport.

Back on topic, do you get Tennents in the US of A? May be going to Colorado for the MLS All-Star game and wanted to see if I can get my local brew.

Also, who was the long-time beer-based sponsor of the Red Sox, if any? I've bet a friend it was/is Sam Adams.

Sam Adams is a fairly new brand, founded in 1984. Not sure if Boston had a long-time beer affiliation.

Are there any current ballparks serving a beer other then Bud? I was at Tropicanan Field the other night, and they serve Bud, although they offer other beer in their resteraunts.

PNC Park sells Iron City and Penn Pilsner which are both local brews along with all the national brands.

In reply to tonypug's post on 8-19-05, Eastside was indeed an original sponsor of Dodger radio broadcasts in Los Angeles. I found your note via a Google search. Eastside commercials had two talking jingles. I remember one fairly well but not so sure of the words in the other.

One was: "The ball game's over. You know the score. Talk it over while you get some more Eastside old tap lager beer, the grand old brand of the West."

The other was timed for during the game. It went something like: The ball game's started. Hey, what's the score? .........

And it had a line that went "Scully and Doggett announce it all" for Eastside old tap, etc.

Any way, got here looking for the precise wording. Scully is Vin Scully, still the Dodger voice. Doggett was Jerry Doggett, his partner in those days. As many Dodger fans know, both were honored by having characters in the TV show the X Files named after them.

I have some old TV commercials showing Orioles baseball being sponsored by Gunther Beer. There are three live action spots featuring Senior Wences and then two animated ones with different jingles - Gonna get a 'G' and Gunther - the Happiest Taste in Beer Today.

Also, Pabst Brewing owns a great deal of the 'old' brands including Rainier, Schlitz, National Bohemian, Stag, Shaefer, Blatz, Stroh's, Ballentine, Olympia and Piels.

During the Cardinals games they always show the Bud beer guy. Bud has proclaimed themselves the King of Beer, even during the World Cup Soccer in Germany
they were the official beer of soccer, I think their beer sucks. No taste
just bitterness. They took Take me Out to The Ballgame and changed the words in a commercial, I'll never understand that.

Budweiser pretty much ran out of business most of the smaller local breweries. Fortunately, some smaller brewers are coming back.

Can we get a thread going about what beers are currently sold at each MLB ballpark? Is Bud sold at every stadium?

I'll get it started:

Chicago White Sox (US Cellular)

Bud, Miller, Miller Lite, Miller High Life, Rolling Rock, Heineken, Guiness, Corona, Tecate, Fosters, Becks, Stella Artois, Grolsch, Tecate, Leinenkugel, Pilsner Urquell, Peroni,

Are we talking about at the concession stands that cater to the masses or at specialized bars in the park?

Comerica Park has beer available at the concourse and vendors level, but they have also have the Tiger Den Bar behind home plate, as well as the Tiger Club in the outfield, which caters to the people who are watching the game from a table in the bar. i.e. better beers. I would think most new parks have these bars inside them, as well.

Well, some of the beer only concessions at Shea have Brooklyn Lager and Beck's, and Grolsch, Widmer Hefeweizen and Blonde Ale on tap at the Broadway Brew House on the 3rd base field level (they had Hoegaarden there early in '07 but unfortunately it didn't last ). Other than that, the usual generic fare. Hoping CitiField will improve greatly in this area. :crossfingers:

I know I came around much later, and probably younger then most here, but I happen to like Labatt Blue and Miller Lite. I am from Upstate NY and used to go to the Minor League Syracuse Chiefs games and I remember they used to serve either Bud, Miller Genuine Draft, Matts or Labatt Blue. Guess since the Chiefs were the Toronto Blue Jays farm team it made sense to serve Labatt Blue, that and Labatt Blue is big in Upstate NY.

Originally, it was made only for the employees of Iron City Brewing Co.as a Christmas gag gift, but when others saw it and asked about it, Iron City started to make it available commercially. The original cans are prized by beer can collectors. Still it was only Iron City.
