View Full Version : Most Disturbing Mascot?

Borrowing from Dianasmoon's previous post, what do you find to be the most disturbing mascot in minor league baseball? Right now, I'm torn between the Montgomery Biscuit and the Lansing Lugnut?

All of the names are stupid, but they are supposed to give the team's respective city an identity. Most minor league teams are based in small cities so you might not know them, but the most disturbing one to me is the Batavia Muckdogs. The Muckdogs are the Class-A short season team for the Phillies.

Lansing Lugnuts are now the Peoria Chiefs, the team has moved, but I agree that it was an odd mascot. The uhhh... Storm are kind of weird, don't know what city they are but the team logo is a pair of what looks like villainous eyes.

The High Desert Mavericks (Class A, CAL League) have a mascot called Wooly Bully. It's a rather nice costume.

However, a few years ago, Wooly was "credited" as being the first mascot ejected from a game. It was even shown on Fred Roggan's Hall of Shame on NBC that night. The front office people neglected to tell Wooly that this is professional baseball, and you don't interfere with the umpires.

To add to that incident, about a season or two later, Wooly started annoying the opposing manager, who was coaching 3B, and got a punch in the head.

You're refering to "Clammy Sosa", Indiana. He's one of many Zooperstars characters that visit minor league ballparks and other venues. I first saw the Zooperstars at the Triple A All-Star game in Norfolk, VA several years ago. They had the crowd of 15,000 or so "rolling in the aisles"! Other characters include "Cow Ripken", "Ken Girrafey", and "Harry Canary".

The most disturbing mascot I've seen is at the high school level. Here in Yuma, we have five high schools. The oldest of the five, Yuma High, has a mascot called a "Criminal." Yuma has the famous, historic Yuma Prison. But still, having a HS mascot of criminal. The physical mascot is a hard looking guy in a blue prison suit with a number across the back.

But then again, it might be pretty fitting for some of the kids at YHS.

I like the Yuma Criminals mascot. I can understand how someone who doesn't know Yuma history or who is an outsider would have issue with it. I also like the logo, the bad boy looking cartoon type character. It makes it unique among too many cookie cutter mascots.
