Last year there seemed to be some intrest in the Frontier League on the Independent Baseball General thred so lets keep it going.
Even though we are still some 90 days from the beginning of the season, there is some pre-season news starting already. :radio
If you are a fan of this indrpendent league that reaches from Eastern-Pennsylvania to Middle-Missouri this is your place. Share your stories, game reviews, witticisms, gripes, compliments, or news here. :atthepc

So does anyone know what's going to happen with the field down in Ozark? I'm guessing no other minor league team is going to move there since the Cards are in Springfield and with SMS (or maybe just MS I can't keep up) moving their games out of there it seems like its just going to go to waste.
Also are the Ohio Valley team playing in the same place now they that they were before?

This is the year I really hope to take the 90-minute scenic drive to Chillicothe, Ohio to see the Paints. I've been wanting to do that for awhile, but have not had the chance.
It's too bad I missed out on Zanesville, entirely.

I have a whole gallery devoted to Zanesville's Gant Stadium on my website. I photographed the Paints last season as well, but they are coming in a future series.

By the way, you know we gave the award for ballpark of the year to the Gateway Grizzlies right? It was on the front page of their website and the front page of the Frontier League's homepage for over a month.

Hey, Digital Ballparks are you planning to get any pics of the new park in Florence? I have only been to GMC Stadium and T.R. Hughes Ballpark. I love the photos of the parks on your site.
Also I visited Tim's FL History Page. Wow that is a great site. Love the logos from all the past teams.

Bigtime trade!!! Got this off the Redcoats new site.
EVANSVILLE, IN – The Evansville Otters and Ohio Valley Redcoats have completed a seven player deal marking the largest player swap in Otters history.
Evansville acquires the contracts of catchers John Spencer and Jud Kindle, OF Josh Wettlaufer, and pitcher Mike Schaefer from Ohio Valley in exchange for first baseman Jim Lipinski, catcher Andrew Ginther, and pitcher Kurt Watzek.

We haven't been there yet, but the Owner of Florence's baseball team has invited us out there. We just haven't gotten the chance to get out to Kentucky yet.
The ballpark that the Redcoats will be using however, Loeb Stadium, we filmed last season. (We had no idea it was going to be used this season, we just photographed it, thinking of it as an old minor league park). It will appear soon. The Red Coats also will be playing in other places besides Loeb. Expect home games to occur in 3 different locations.

Hey Dizzy, do you know where I can find stats on the Independent players of the past?...the ones who are either in the Minors,Majors or retired? You can also add the current players as well. This would include the Frontier League. Any help would be appreciated. ;)

Mid-Missouri Mavricks: KFRI AM 1400 (Currently Off-Air)
Mid Mo is KFRU 1400 and the games are going to be broadcast at midnight. Last year they were on 4 stations and the games were live, but this year they said they felt KFRU would do a better job so now only people who live in Columbia who are up at midnight will be able to enjoy the games. I don't even understand the point of having a broadcast if no one can hear it live. I'm begining to think this team is being run by a bunch of clowns. I tried to buy some merch this offseason and the phone number listed didn't work and their "store" was closed everytime I was in Columbia.

i saw a couple of the ThunderBolt/ Maverick games. the mavericks look a little weak. teh thunderbots however look strong especially in hitting. if there pitching comes around they will be tough. going to try to see them against rockford this week. their ownership looks for real in some of the changes they have made at teh ballpark. they need to get some fans but once there i think they will come back.

Hello:
I'm having difficulty trying to get certain teams to send me their magnet schedule in the past few seasons and I hope a few of you can help me out. Here are the ones that I'm looking for:
Canton Crocodiles: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001
Dubois County Dragons: 1999, 2000, 2001
Evansville Otters: 1999
Florence Freedom: 2005
Johnstown Johnnies: 2001
Mid-Missouri Mavericks: 2005
Ohio Valley Redcoats: 1998, 2005(will settle with pocket schedules)
Richmond Roosters: 2000, 2005
River City Rascals: 2000, 2005
Rockford Riverhawks: 2005
Springfield Capitals: 1997, 1998, 2000
Washington Wild Things: 2004, 2005
Teams no longer in the league
Any help is appreciated. I have been a Kalamazoo Kodiaks/Kings fan since they started. I was at the game last Friday and somehow they came back and beat the Riverhawks in 10 innings. I hope we finally have a team that will give us a good chance to get back into the playoffs and go beyond there. Real hitting team so far. Thanks.

The Ohio Valley Redcoats have not produced a magnet schedule and as yet we do not have a pocket schedule, though I'm hopeful we will get one before arriving in Lafayette for those citizens. In the meantime, the pocket sched template can be found at:

I guess I'm out of the loop, but today when I was searching my local library's web catalog I saw "Everything Happens in Chillicothe: A Summer in the Frontier League With Max McLeary, the One-Eyed Umpire" by Mike Shannon. Has anyone read this? I guess I'll check it out when I get a chance to stop by the library.

BIG news!!!!!!!!!!! The Richmond Roosters will be on the move soon. Here is the official statment:
"The Richmond Roosters have announced that the team will be sold at the end of the 2005 season to Wuerfel Sports Development and will be moving to Traverse City, Michigan for the 2006 season. The Roosters will operate the club through the end of the current season. We thank our fans, sponsors and friends for everything they have done and continue to do to support our hometown Richmond Roosters. We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the fun during the remainder of the season."

The Richmond Roosters have been in the Frontier League since 1995, and are still in there origional city. The Roosters became a team replacing the now defunct Kentucky Rifles franchise (1993-1994).
The Roosters have won back to back championships in 2001 and 2002, as well as making the playoffs in there first three years of existence (1995-1997). They play at Don McBride Stadium in Richmond, Indiana
Among the great Roosters teams there have been many ofthe league's greatest players. This includes eight members of the Frontier League Tenth Anniversery team: Morgan Burkhart, Fran Riordan, Joe Pass, Steve Ruckman, Keith Hab, Steve Mitrovich, Jeff Montfort, and Bobby Chandler.
Some Rooster award winner include:
Rookie of the Year: 2002 Phil Willingham and 2004 Kevin White
Pitcher of the Year: 2004 Chad Sosebee
Manager of the Year: 1998 John Cate
Frontier League MVP: 1996,1997,1998 Morgan Burkhart and 2002 Phil Willingham.
Morgan Bukhart became the FL's first position player in the MLB in 2000 for the Boston Red Sox. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=burkhmo01 . In 1998 Bukhart batted .404 with 36 homers and 98 RBIs in 80 games.
THe Roosters will be missed. Since 1995 they have become stable name in a league where on year stays in a city are common.
