How many players drafted by the Expos (or played in Expos farm system) reach MLB without playing for the Montréal Expos?

I know only 2:
Jason Bay and Tony Phillips

I'm sure that they are not the only ones...

Throwing names out there:

Kevin Reimer
Charles Johnson. I believe they were both drafted by the Expos without playing with the team.

Tom Brady. He reached the major without playing for the team, that I'm sure. ;)

Wow tough Q slaff.

See a player drafted and then not signed currently can re-enter the draft (2 years ?) later.

This cam about because of a player name Pete Incaviglia. He was drafted by the Expos but REFUSED to sign and then legally challenged the rules and succeeded in going else where. So he was drafted by but never played for the Expos. (the irony in this is that near the end of his career Mtl needed a 1B and he came begging for a job...getouttahere!!!)

Now the drafting team receives a compensatory draft pick

Then ,ore recently there was John Patterson (he acquired last spring in a trade with Arizona) who was drafted but never tenered a contract by Jim "chuckles" beattie and was declared a free agent.

I do not have suffient memory cells left to try and identify any/all players drafted by the expos but who never played for the expos (affiliates) and then reached the bigs.... I would imagine there were a few. Especially in the early years.

We could make 2 lists:

Drafted but refused to sign
-Pete Incaviglia
-Charles Johnson?

Played in Expos organisation
-Jason Bay
-Tony Phillips
-Norm Charlton

Kevin Reimer?
I didn’t see anywhere that he was drafted by the Expos, nor that he played in Expos organisation?!

John Patterson?
He played with the Expos in 2004

I'm sure that we will do the best that we could to find a maximum of players...

A couple more are Roger Nelson and Norm Charlton.

The Roger Nelson drafted by the Expos doesn't seem to be the same...

I looked at the 1968 draft (#130):
http://www.sports-wired.com/draft/draft.asp?Y=1968&P=June-Reg&R=6&ID=15921
He is listed as a catcher from the Lincoln (NE) high school/college

The "real" Roger Nelson was a pitcher and no college is listed for him at Baseball-reference...and in 1968 he was already in MLB

You're absolutely correct. I neglected to notice that the information I was looking at mentioned him being drafted in 1968... despite having pitched for the Sox in '67.

The played in expos orgaization will be huge. Just recently you have sizemore and lee in cleveland (Phillips played a couple of games in Mtl), all the prospects through the years that played in the minors but not the bigs....

When I mentionned Reimer, I was thinking about Incaviglia, my bad. I had their life stories tangled up. At my age, you start confusing big, beefy guys who use to play for Texas who were drafted by the Expos with big, beefy guys who played with Texas who use to live in Calgary. It's perfectly normal.

I don't know how reliable is the site Baseball Cube but...
Mark McGwire, Mike Boddiker, Glenn Davis, Phil Garner, Eric Hanson, Chris Sabo, Roy Smalley, Jeff Brantley,...

I'm a little bit surprise, especially for the selection of Mark McGwire...and Eric Cyr, a hometown boy.

Hubie Brooks 1974
Jack O’Connor 1976
Jeff Reardon 1973
Jeff Treadway 1981

I swear he was a callu-up when Cabrerra was injured or in Sept and played a bout a week in MOntreal then was sent down.......

There's no mention of him in the media guide, in the section where they list everyone that played for the Expos from 69 to 2003.

Slaff I think you got the Wrong Phillips.

This guys was in our minor system and was traded to Clevland for Colon. I don't believe he was a rule 5 and so there is no way he played for those teams.....

Oh! You were talking about Brandon Phillips not Tony...my mistake

:crazy

Brandon Phillips played 129 games in MLB, all for the Indians.

Does anyone know about Brady's talent as a baseball player? He was a catcher, I think.

I remember Denis Casavant talking about the batting practice Brady took with the Expos at Candelstick Park (I believe). But I don't think he said anything about the young man's performance tough.

June 8, 1981: Drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 8th round of the 1981 amateur draft, but did not sign.

If the question is players that the Expos drafted but were unable to sign, you might want to throw in pitching ace Larry Jackson who was drafted by the Expos in the 1968 expansion draft, but chose to retire. Were there any others like that?
