I am a big Cubs fan, God help me, I have quite a bit of stuff. I would have to say my most cherished thing is my Ryne Sandberg jersey. I love that thing. I can't decide on wearing it or framing it.

What is everyone's favorite piece?

I've got a signed '95 world series ball by Dennis Martinez...nothing in my collection with huge value, other than what I attach to it :gt

Is your Sandberg just a jersey? Autographed? Game Worn?

I would have to say my favorite memorabilia piece is the 2003 Cubs team signed ball because I actually got to meet them at a Cubs event in August '03 before a game. Sosa was very joyful, Baker was laughing it up (he touched my hair). It was a great time! Then after we met the team, we went into the visitor's dugout and met Sandberg, Santo (who I had already met), and Billy Williams. Banks was supposed to be their but didn't show up. I got to roam the field, touch the ivy, it was the best experience I have ever had.

Toss up:

Authenticated Jordan autograph on an 8x10 photo of him against the Cavs the year before he first retired.

And an actual chair from Wrigley..

Value goes to the Jordan autograph, but my favorite would have to be the chair.

My favs are the least valued items in my collection to the average joe , but to me they are my favs. I'm a big Cuban baseball follower , so I would have to say the cover of the NY post with Contreras in his cuban uniform , signed by Jose , and a photo of Livan and Orlando Hernandez signed by both.

Ball signed by Don Nottebart. It was one that got away from him in the bullpen warming up the night he threw his no-hitter for Houston in 1964, Pete Runnels picked it up and flipped it to me, and my pop took me back the next night to get Nottebart to sign it.

This is a great thread! As far as sheer value, it would probably my Ted Williams auto'd ball, but I value his signed HOF plaque more because I got it in person in Cooperstown in 1991.

As far as what I like the most out of my own collection, I would have to say my ticket stubs from Games 1 and 2 of the 2004 World Series (yes, I was there), as well as the stub from my first game.

My favorites are a puck autographed by the Detroit Red Wings production line (Howe, Abel and Lindsay) and an double autographed copy of Carl Yastrzemski's 1968 autobiography. He signed the first blank page, and, much to my delight, turned a couple more pages to another blank page and signed it again. I remember he was talking about what he liked about sharpies right before he signed my copy.

hey, man. it was very very special for me to have galarraga sign my scorebook on the page where he stole #127 of his career.

i had been told of his recurred cancer months before and found it amazing that he was able to push his horrible news to the side and be very productive and have an excellant season for the giants.
his stolen bag occurred in the seventh with the giants down a run. (the hated dodgers has just gone ahead with a run in the top of the frame.) anywaze, the big cat showed me what gamers are all about: leaving it all out there on the field. there was no way that quantrill and the hated dodgers were expecting the big fella to try for second... but he did. on guts. and he made it.

so, in order of importance to me:
galarraga signed career stolen base #127 page of my scorebook
willie mcgee gamer bat and ball, both signed
galarraga signed hr #398 page of same scorebook
barry bonds gamer bat from 2001 (not signed. he offered but i said no thanx.)

question to all who have posted about signed baseballs: are the signed baseballs from the playing period of the player who signed?

i got a few signed by willie mays. the balls are from the giles years and that distinguishes them, i think.

i don't want a mays auto on a mlb ball. i want it on a nl ball. whaddaya think?

wcoab, I agree that getting an auto on a ball from the period in which the player played is cool, but given the prices of blank MacPhail, Cronin, etc. balls, it's too pricy of a venture for most. But yes, I do get autos on NL and AL balls, not ML balls.

On the subject of 1st big league HR balls, my buddy caught what was actually Russ Johnson's 2nd career homer in 1997, his 1st one in the Astrodome. We were out in what was called Lefty's Pub then in the LF corner of the park, coming out of the men's room to tell you the truth, and this baseball's suddenly pounding around on the concrete close to us. We weren't aware it was really a home run at first since we weren't really paying attention to the action. One of the "blue coats," as we called them came out and told us Russ would like the ball if they could get it. It's late September that season, and my friend jokes, "Sure, how about some tickets?" They take him up to some offices on the mezzanine level above us and give him 4 seats to what was the last home game of the season about a week or so later. The whole time he's telling the usher and the lady in the office, "Really, I'd have given it to y'all for free." Worked out pretty nice.

A homerun ball would be great to catch, i only wish the Mattingly ball i have signed was a homerun ball and not a ball bought from the Skydome for whatever outrageous price i paid

Great story too by the way!

Yeah, sure Seth. :crazy

I guess my most expensive item would be the Randy Johnson/Nolan Ryan game-used jersey card I pulled out of a $20 pack of cards. It's #19 out of 50, and mint. I have yet to get it graded or priced. Probably around $100 I'm thinking.

My favorite baseball piece, though, is my Ozzie Smith rookie card. It's nowhere near mint condition, but he's always been my favorite player (and not just because of the killer back-flips). I used to have a Pete Rose rookie card (forgot who else was on the card), but my fifth grade teacher ripped me off for it. I think I got a Dave Winfield card in return, which I had confiscated by another teacher. At the time, I was a huge Winfield fan, even though he played for the Yanks.

I would hope he does have a guilty conscience, but I have a feeling he fleeced many more kids than myself. The crappy thing about that was: I recieved a Dave Winfield rookie in return, only to have it confiscated before I could get it out of the school. I'm pretty sure the teacher that took it from me gave it back to my homeroom teacher that fleeced me in the first place.

I've been collecting for about 17 years now, and by accounts could probably come up with a top 250, but here's a fan sharing a top 10 most personal sampling with the forum:

1. Ticket stub from July 4th, 1941: Lou Gehrig Memorial Day at Yankee Stadium. This item was bought for me just after my dad passed away back in 1992.

2. My personal season ticket chairs from Exhibition Stadium. The same seats from which I watched my first major league game back in 1983.

3. An ear of corn taken from the Field of Dreams movie site during a trip in the summer of '96 when I visit all 28 major league parks.

4. Autographed 1946 World Series Program (Musial, Slaughter, Shoendienst, Marion and Garagiola)

5. Signed, framed jigsaw puzzle of Rockwell's Three Umpires, by Warren Spahn and Johnny Sain 'Pray for Rain!'

6. Piano Music (1908) for Take Me Out to the Ballgame

7. Ticket Stub from Game 6, 1993 World Series (Joe Carter homerun), which I attended.

8. Autographed scorecards (neatly scored) from both ends of Musial's 5HR doubleheader. Signed during a private meeting with Stan the Man

9. Signed Buck Leonard biography by Buck and his wife. Obtained while visiting Buck during my ballparks trip. Little time between book's publication and his passing. ?Only one in existence?

10. Reggie Jackson autographed baseball card (signed upside down). Reggie was my favorite.

Here are the top ten from my collection (in their value to me):
1) Picture taken with Mike Gallo then signed by him the following year

2) Auto Jeff Bagwell Jersey - Signed while I was wearing it

3) Craig Biggio signed hat

4) Jeff Bagwell Card collection (650 different cards or so)

5) Signed pictures by former Georgia Tech players Nick Wagner, Aaron Walker, and Andrew Kown all signed while playing in the minors

6) My father's fast pitch softball shirt, which I wear under my jersey every time I play

7) Mets BP Ball hit by Benny Agbayani signed by Bobby Valentine, Todd Ziele, Mike Benjamin, Turk Wendell, and Rick Reed - My father was standing in the loge level of Shea, when Benny hit it. He saw it was coming right for him, but wouldn't make it into the stands, so he kneeled out on top of the Newsday sign hanging off the stands, and backhanded the ball over the sign. Those in the crowd that saw it went nuts, and Darryl Hamilton yelled up to my father. We got it signed the same night.

8) Jose Lima signed hat

9) Micah Owings personalized signed jersey card

10) Ticket stub from 10/11/05 Braves vs. Astros Game 5 - Astros win their first playoff series

Most Expensive: Mickey Mantle signed ball

My most prized is a picture of me at 3yrs old in a nearly empty yankee stadium in 1987. My most prized cards have to be a collection of cards with most of the 96 yanks in it. I also have the sitting part of a chair from yankee stadium from when it broke when the guy next to my dad stood up on it. My dad managed to get it out of the stadium and i have it to this day. I also have a ticket collection of the tickets from most of the games i have gone to in an old album.

Mine is a MLB ball, thats signed by Mike Bell

but its not the autograph that makes it my most prized piece, its the fact that its the same ball i threw out for the first pitch on Sept 15, 1999 at a Cincinnati Reds game

2. Dodgers hat signed by Hamilton native, and Dodger Manager Jimmy Tracy, and former Dodger Manager Tommy Lasorda

3. a ball autographed by 26 of the 2003 Reds

4. Actual Cincinnati Enquirer from when Pete Rose broke the all-time hits record.

Hey, fun thread!

I have this one baseball (given by pitcher Ed Farmer) from 1983 that, when my nephew asked me how much it was worth, I told him Tiger Woods and Bill Gates couldn't afford it if they chipped in together. :D Got them all at the Vet in Philly.
Some Hall of Famers:
Mike Schmidt (Sweet Spot, naturally; I'd asked anyone else to please save it for him).
Pete Rose (Yeah, I know ;>( But STILL
Rich Ashburn
Joe Morgan
Tony Perez
Cary Carter
Johnny Bench
Harry Kalas (as much a part of Phillies baseball as anyone was, IMO)
Pretty much the 1983 Phillies team, including Tug & Cy Young winner John Denny. Richie Ashburn quipped "You must have the whole National League on here".
Somebody offered me a new baseball in early '84 for the "overflow", recommending that I "retire this poor ball already". Have Minoso, Semenick, Dobey and few others on this one.
Phillies game logoed batting glove given & signed by Juan Samuel, Mike Schmidt signed it later that day.
1980 Phillies Team Photo taken by team photographer
Autographed Pete Rose photos
A couple of Billy Ripken Eff-Face cards

Phillies Centennial Team poster signed by Mike Schmidt
Countless Phillies programs signed by countless '80s National Leaguers.

1983 World Series Program signed by (ABC Announcers) Tommy Lasorda and Reggie Jackson (who happened to be one of the players drawn by artist Dick Perez on the cover, so he signed on himself.)
Baseball signed by The Mick
One signed by Steve Carlton (Only thing I'd ever consider selling :>)
Yogi's book signed
Magazine with Michael Jack on the cover, signed by Mike (because he insisted). His line was still so long behind me at a charity event in July of 1989 that, when I got up there, I told him to just give his hand a rest a second (just as gracious and humble as the zillion other times I'd encountered him, so a quick handshake would have sufficed nicely, all things consided). But he still wouldn't let me leave without signing something.

Oddest for last: I collected Radio Play By Play like it was baseball cards.

Countless cassette tapes filled with '80s Phillies play-by-play/highlights/post game interviews (whenever I wasn't at the games), up until Mike Schmidt retired - mostly Harry Kalas calls;
2 Ryan No Hitters (last innings, thanks to WFAN Radio);
Cal's 2130-2131 on WBAL Radio with Jon Miller, Bill Clinton's home run call...; Some Mel Allen "This Week in Baseball" radio broadcasts and Mel's '83 season highlights show as well.
Have two 26-7 losses off the Radio -- BOTH managed by Davey Johnson; Mets and Orioles, as I followed the Orioles on Radio more closely since 1987. (Phils as an organization was just so sickening that I pretty much just timed for Schmidt's at-bats by then. I took my radio to my sister's wedding & reception - 'twas a day game in Pittsburg!).
So have Cal's consecutive inning streak ending (by Cal Sr.) and the highlight, (the game's conclusion :clapping ) of first O's win of '88 (22nd game of the year) Vs. Chicago w/ Jon Miller.
Whether tuning through the static, or just waiting for the highlights on our Sports Radio station WCAU AM, (a concept now extinct in Philly) I had the "Play/Record" going!
Pete Rose/Eric Show 4192, Kirk Gibson, Rhegetti no hitter, Pine Tar Game, Dave Winfield killing the seagull in Toronto, Pop's Goodbye speech in Pittsburg in 1982, etc...

It was the last game of the season, and he came out of the dugout and said "Hey, want a bat?", and he gave it to me. If only I remembered who it was.... for all I know the guy could've been an all-star last year and I might not even know it. All I remember is that he was playing for the Buffalo Bisons in the late 90s (maybe it was early 00s?). It's a Louisville Slugger model C243 and the butt of the bat has "44" written on it. If anyone can help and tell me who might have used it, please do.

I'm just going to scan them individually. I'll make each person's name a separate link so you'll see the autograph as well as a little info on when I met each one.

A couple of things I like:

1.) 2003 and 2004 baseballs with several St. Louis Cardinals signatures (Edgar Renteria, Tony Womack, Woody Williams, Brett Tomko, Jason Isringhausen, Steve Kline, Fernando Vina, Bo Hart, Cody McKay, Tony LaRussa, etc.)

2.) A pair of seats from Riverfront Stadium (my first and most frequented ballpark).

3.) A Pete Rose Louisville slugger player model bat, which Rose signed to me.

4.) A baseball signed to me by Rose, Tom Seaver and Whitey Ford. I call it my "Hall of Fame Ball." ... maybe one day that will make sense.

5). A photo of my dad and Rose, Rose is signing the ball to me.

6.) The game ball I was awarded in fifth grade. My Dad wrote out my stats, the score and date on it. (I was a terrible player so I thought that was cool).

You get the idea ...

A Bat signed by Tony Oliva

The thing that makes the bat so special is the story behind it. My Senior Year of High School I was named the Offensive MVP of a wooden bat tournament in Minneapolis. The name of the award was the "Tony Olivia Award." He was there to present me with the bat and take a bunch of pictures and sign autographs.

What makes it so cool is that Tony Olivia was my Dad's favorite player when he was a kid, so my Dad got to meet Olivia and all three of us had our picture taken together.

It gets better. I won the award on the last day of the tournament which happened to also be Father's Day. That was probably one of the best days of my life. I was able to give the bat to my dad as a Father's Day present.

Also, I have every homerun ball I hit from college. Not too many, but it's pretty cool to see them all lined up on the shelf back home and remember the homeruns I hit playing NCAA sports.

In my earlier post I forgot to mention my authentic Cuban baseball pullover jersey and baseball pants.

A neighbour got it from a Cuban player during a tournament played in the Netherlands. But because he knew I am really crazy about baseball, he gave it to me.

That's pretty cool! I hope Cuba is in the WC.

I'm just curious, do you collect baseball cards? Are there any Dutch baseball cards made? I've got some cards from Holland, but they're soccer and non-sports.

I also have this very nice piece of Yankee artwork haning above my desk. It was made by New York street artist Harry Glaubach who has also done pieces for George Steinbrenner and Lou Piniella among others. It features old Yankee Stadium circa the 1920's, eight players and one umpire. The only recognizable player is Babe Ruth.

Well I've started scanning them. I've got over 150 scanned on my site so far, they're just randomly mixed in. I'm scanning them in the order in which I got them, so right now it's a little difficult to find them, but you're more than welcome to look.
Once you click on one that's not listed, you'll easily find the ones that are.
Unfortunately when I went back home to get my autographs, about 300 were missing. I'm sure they were misplaced and I'm hoping my parents find them and have them sent to me. I brought back 850, so it'll be a few weeks until they're all listed.

Signed 8x10 by Sam McDowell, I got it at a show 3 months ago, There was this cardboard cut-out of a strike-zone by the table he was signing ans I tried my hand at couldnt get the first 2 balls in the zone despite the fact I pitch in real life. On my third pitch I hear this voice say" Don't drag your swing foot" so I dont and the result is a perect slider low and away, I then turn around to find out it was Sam who had said that, and he then took 20 minutes to "coach" me on my pitching. After he was done I went and found an 8x10 of him to get it signed. I was expecting the standard "just-sig" intead I got this inscrption

"To Harrison, You've got a great arm and and even better heart, keep pitching and I'll see you in Cooperstown. With all my best, Sam McDowell.

WOW, I almost cried when I read it. It's things like that that make me proud to love baseball. Thanks Sam.

this is a funny story.

I went to a game last year at Wrigley Field against the Dodgers with my mom, my brother, and my brother's girlfriend. We were sitting in the Family Section (101a, which is the little section between the LF Bleachers and the grandstands). Beforehand, I knew they were good seats for batting practice, so we got there before the gates opened to catch as much BP as possible. About halfway through BP, my mom gets me a hotdog and a drink, so I put my glove down (I'm sitting in the first row), my brother also has his glove down (he, his GF, and my mom are sitting in the back row, there are 3 rows). So my mom and Josie, his GF, start talking. I turn around to see what they're talking about and... bam. A ball hits Josie right in the boobs and lands in her lap. She has no idea what happened except that it hurt. I climb up the rows and she hands me the ball. I look at it and I see this imprinted on it backwards, "ARAM". So at first I'm like "Ramon? Ramon Martinez?", but my brother says, "No, its A-R-A-M." Turns out, it was ARAMis Ramirez, or at least the hitter was using his bat.

Josie came to our house a few days later and she shows us her battle wound: A three or four inch circular bruise.

I get a laugh out of this every time I think of it. :D

Once upon a time, I had an "excellent"-rated 1973 Nolan Ryan Topps card.
I ended up giving it to my high school sweetheart's brother after we broke up, as some kind of illogical means to win her back.

I lost her and the card. :(

For me it's my personalized autographed Mickey Mantle ball. Only got it a year or so before he died. I also have autographed balls by Bob Feller, Hank Aaron, Stan Musial, Johnny Mize (personalized), Fred McGriff, and Jim Abbott (with his right hand, very rare).

My dad has a ball signed by the entire Yankee's team from the early 50's. We aren't sure about the exact year but we narrowed it down to early 50's. It includes signatures by Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Johnny Mize, Allie Reynolds, Whitey Ford (who signed as Ed Ford), Joe DiMaggio. Was told once the ball was worth anywhere between $500 and $1500.

Just remembered one more thing: a picture of the last pitch of Don Larson's perfect game, signed by Don Larson.

New remembrance: Harmon Killebrew signed ball.

I also have a 1949-50 Acebo y Cia signed card(they used to come in match boxes) of Cuban League's Almendares pitcher Rene "Tata" Solis. He never made it to the makors, but its rarety (I doubt there are many more in existence, let alone autographed) makes it valuable to me.

My collection of cuban players also has an extremely high value to me, it ranges from Adolfo Luque to Kendry Morales (81 players).

I would have to say all the stuff I got from being at the Nationals' inaugural game on April 14, 2005. I got the commemorative program, medallion, ticket shaped like the Capitol Dome, and souvenir soda cup with the 2005 season schedule.

I don't have much but I'd probably say my Jackie Robinson 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers Mitchell and Ness jersey, because he's one of my favorite players and it was the first time Brooklyn won the World Series. Worth $350 (didn't pay that much tho  :laugh ).

Carlton Fisk came to a funraiser baseball game sunday and was playing second base in it. He was using this old beatup glove. He tried to catch a line drive and it tore right through his glove. At the end of the game he signed it for my 4 year old brother.

I have a 1958 Topps card with that title. It shows Del Crandall, Eddie Mathews, Hank Aaron, and Joe Adcock. I personally got all four autographs on the card. My most prized Braves possession.

Best baseball card is either 1960 Mickey Mantle or 1961 Roger Maris.
Best baseball article of clothing is my Cubs baseball hat.
Best baseball experience was going to see the Cubs game at Wrigley field. Harry Carey was still alive and got everyone to sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game."
Fave memory - My dad and I watching and paying particular attention to Dawson, Grace, Walton, Sandberg, and later, Sosa. I miss Maddux - what do you think?

I don't think I've "gotten" my most prized piece yet, but for being only 14 I've got some nice things which include:
-2005 Eastern League (AA) all-star signed baseball from EVERY (50) player, both managers, and a couple coachs. Includes major leaguers such as Hanley Ramirez, Mike Jacobs, Jon Lester, etc.
-2005 Playoff Absolute Memorabilia Ted Williams game-used jersey/jacket/jersey card (BV $150).
-Francisco Liriano / Scott Kazmir dual autographed card
-Billy Butler $80 rookie card
-Darryl Strawberry / HoJo dual framed signed photograph
-Ryan Howard autographed jersey card
-Harmon Killebrew autographed piece
-My friendship with Frank Thomas, the former major league slugger, and an amazing signed framed piece featuring him
-Sandy Koufax signed index card and signed photo
-My somewhat modest Jacoby Ellsbury collection (2 certified autographs, 10 other autographed cards, 3 signed baseballs)
-My two George Bush Sr. signed Official Major League Baseballs
-Jered Weaver autographed Bowman Chrome rookie card (selling on eBay for upwards of $100)
-Signed baseball cards from Ken Griffey Jr., Jon Papelbon (most rookies), and about 2000 others but mostly minor stars and prospects
-Ben Cherington signed sweet spot baseball, George Steinbrenner signed 8x10 color photo, Theo Epstein signed index card, Brian Cashman signed items
-Kodak signed photo of Craig Hansen and myself
-Willie Mays and Carl Hubbell signed index cards
-Philip Hughes (Yankees amazing prospect) signed sweet spot (and about 15 signed cards)
-My Craig Hansen collection (about 20 signed cards, a signed hat, two signed index cards, and a signed OMLB)
-Al Kaline signed 1968 Topps card
-Jay Bruce signed rookie jersey card

That's about it... nothing huge... lots of these items will hopefully appreciate in value as time wears on.

Interesting thread...
Very easy decision for me, a baseball autographed by "The Iron Horse", Lou Gehrig. Given to me by my dad, who got it signed at a game when he was a boy.

A ball signed by the 1954 New York Giants. (Warren Giles ball, 28 sigs)
A ticket stub from Don Larsen's Perfect Game. My Pop attended 4 no-hitters; Carl Hubbell(1929), Rex Barney (1948), Carl Erskine (1956) and Larsen's perfecto (also 1956) and saved the stub from this one!
My grandfather gave me these heirlooms and I wouldn't sell them for any amount of money.

Mickey Mantle's autograph on his APBA card.

That, or George Halas's autograph on a Cubs scorecard; he was there to throw out the first pitch.

Slightly behind those is an autographed Polaroid of myself and Minnie Minoso. (His autograph, not mine!)

tommybaseball...wow, you're close to what mine is...a 1953 New York Giants team ball. My grandfather also knew Leo Durocher during his years with the New York Giants (he was an accountant and did Leo's taxes). He got a signed 1952 yearbook, a signed baseball, and a 1930 St. Louis Cardinals cap with an autograph under the brim. Leo said he couldn't remember if he wore it in a game, but it was laying around. Dad also knew a kid across the street growing up who had this neat cousin who pitched in the Brooklyn Dodgers organization named Sandy Koufax. When Ira had his Bar Mitzvah and my Dad came, he'd invited Sandy Koufax as a relative. Well, the kids all thought Sandy being a minor league pitcher who may make the bigs some day was neat, so he signed for them. It was 1954, and my Dad distinctly remembers Sandy having problems finding a pen that actually had ink in it. Ira asked Koufax to bring a few minor league cards from Montreal, which he did. He signed all of the cards, along with two baseballs, with a blue ballpoint pen. Dad later sold the baseball, but he's kept the photo to this day. My Dad also bumped into Windy McCall of the New York Giants...literally. My Dad was watching some girl on the other side of the street, Windy was looking in a store window, and they collided. McCall apologized, insisted he was the one who was at fault, and signed a sheet of paper for my Dad, which he still has.

Dad also worked as a beer vendor at Shea Stadium and Yankee Stadium from 1967-1970. He got Ron Swoboda's autograph the first day on the job, and Swoboda wasn't the most pleasant character. Dick Howser also signed for him, although I can't remember if anything good or bad happened. But Mickey Lolich of the Tigers was Dad's best autograph experience. In those days at Yankees Stadium, you generally had to run like hell across the bullpen if a pitcher was warming up, because if he didn't actually throw AT you, he'd keep throwing anyway. Mickey stopped throwing while my Dad walked across, the only pitcher to do so. Well, after the game, Lolich was the winning pitcher and my Dad approached him to thank him for not throwing at him. Mickey then asked for a ball, signed it, took aim, and tossed it (very lightly) at my Dad. "Can't be the odd man out, ya know!" he said with a smile. He also bought a beer from my Dad and tipped him $15.

My Dad also collected baseball cards from 1951-1970, and then from 1978-1993. His '51 Bowman set is half complete (with Mantle and Mays rookies), his '52 Bowman is complete (although his 1952 Topps is about half there...he has the Andy Pafko in practically mint because he didn't organize his cards by number, but rather by team, and alphabetically then), complete 1953 Topps, a few '53 Bowman color and Bowman B&W, a complete 1954 Topps set, not too many 1954 Bowman (the best card he gave me being the short-printed Ted Williams), a complete 1955 Topps set with a handful of 1955 Bowman players, but all of the umpires (he told me he traded for 'em), and then pretty much everything is complete. I'm building up the missing years from 1970-1978, and actually have a lot of the supposedly-scarce 1975 Topps Minis, including a Robin Yount RC and Nolan Ryan (my George Brett RC and Gary Carter RC are full-sized). I also have most of the current stuff, including a 1/1 Dave Justice Donruss Diamond Kings card (it's my only 1/1). I also somehow wound up with THREE pack-pulled Harmon Killebrew autographs and a game-used jersey. I've also started collecting tobacco cards, and have found a couple really good deals (the EX+ T-206 John McGraw with Cycle back that cost $20 stands out...). I currently have about 150 or so. The oldest card I have is an 1886 Old Judge Bob Caruthers, which is why I sincerely hope he makes the Hall of Fame. My other two Old Judge cards are of Fred Dunlap and Charlie Comiskey (rounded corners and creased, granted).

As for my autograph stories, the first player who ever signed for me was Pete Harnisch, then of the Mets in 1996. He seemed like a nice guy, primarily because my Dad was a friend of his brother's (yeah, I know he went kinda loco and ran over the cyclist, but he was on his meds during that game). I also wanted to get a signature of the other pitcher who had tossed in that game...a then-prospect named Jason Isringhausen, who gladly signed for me.

When I went to a card show, I waited in line for the coolest guy who ever signed for me...then-Yankees coach Willie Randolph. I had a 1981 World Series scorecard along with a 1986 Topps card I wanted him to sign. I handed him the Topps card first, which he signed, and then I handed him the scorecard...the Yankees, of course, lost the 1981 World Series. Unlike some of the other guys who signed for me who were sarcastic or reacted negatively even if they were at the end of their careers (Hal Reniff signing my Dad's Mets scorecard), Willie was pretty upbeat. "Ya know," he said with a smile, "we shoulda won that one." I thanked him and began to walk away when he said, "Hey, wait!" and returned my pen, which I'd forgotten.

Paul Blair was also a class act when he signed for me. The limit was two signed items, and I had a single 1974 Topps baseball card. He signed it, and as I was looking for my 1966 Topps card (turned out I'd left it at home), he pulled a cancelled check out of his pocket, put that back, a receipt from a grocery store (which he also put back), and then it was like a light went on in his head...he pulled out a dollar bill and signed that! "Just don't spend it," he said with a bit of good humor.

Steve Dalkowski was another class act. I went to visit him a couple years back at his rest home to help with a school project I was writing about him. He signed an Orioles cap, an 8x10, a baseball, and his 1963 Topps baseball card. Even with his past and his borderline retardation thing, he was a nice guy. Back then, I was a pitcher in the Babe Ruth League and related my experience of throwing a 1-hitter, striking out 12, and walking 13. I was fast, and never clocked, either. But my fielding was so bad to the point of having the worst pickoff move of any starter in the league, and also comitting four errors. That'd be before I wrecked my arm after shooting three rounds of trap and pitching a game on the same Saturday afternoon. He detailed a bit about his delivery, which I told him my Dad had seen in Stockton in 1960, but he thinks it was the snap he put on the ball that made it travel so fast. He showed me in slow motion, and I really must say it was unique.

I met the Garv at a Dodgers game in 1991 (4 years after he retired) and he signed my ticket. I actually have 2 autographs. A friend of mine went to a card show and got his autograph for me for free. So those are my two favorite things I have. And I think he belongs in the HOF.:D

.. My proudest piece of memorabilia happens to be (Joe Gilbert's) 1974 (Expos) Home jersey (#42). It's my pride because:

-It is an authentic piece of early Expos' uniform history.

-The (baseball) historical and spiritual significance in Montreal of the number 42 (and for the all Numerologists in the stands, how "1947" & "1974" also interlink...).

-At the final ever Expos series at Shea, I wore it with both pride & sadness as I carried a sign (pardon my bad French syntax) thru the stands and was photographed by the Associated Press and seen in the papers the next day (Newsday here in NYC).

Hard to believe its coming up on 2 years now... (sigh):(

. . . but they're certainly my most recent. The Indians had a garage sale this morning. A lot of the jerseys were $100 and I probably should have got one of a player *when he played* but I got a Brook Jacoby one when he came back for the all-time Indian team. It has the "100 Seasons Charter Member" patch and is signed, for $50. I didn't see any bats of great batters, so I just ended up with a Matt Lawton game-used with a fair signature and the authenticity hologram for $25. They also had what they called "mystery balls", signed baseballs but they were in brown bags so you couldn't see who signed them. A guy in line thought they were official ML baseballs and it turns out they were so I probably should have got more but I took a chance on one. $5 for Ronnie Belliard. Maybe the neatest thing, at least for the money, was the actual nameplate from Eddie Murray's locker. TEN BUCKS!

It's intrinsic (sp?) value will always be higher than its actual value. It might be worth getting it appraised, so in case something bad happens, you can at least get something for it, although it'll never be completely replaced.

I'd have to say it's a three-way tie - my
1960 Mickey Mantle (Topps)
1961 Roger Maris (Topps)
and 1960 Stan "The Man" Musial (Topps)
and of course I love my Nolan Ryans

Again, not sure if it's my most prized piece but it's my most recent. I put in a bid on a Miguel Tejada signed jersey from the World Baseball Classic. I don't usually bid that high and I was surprised no one outbid me (seeing the prices on lesser items)

[QUOTE=HeartOfTheOrder]Interesting thread...
Very easy decision for me, a baseball autographed by "The Iron Horse", Lou Gehrig. Given to me by my dad, who got it signed at a game when he was a boy.

That's awsome & the beauty of baseball:waving
Mine is an actual game worn 1980 away Expo jersey by my idol Larry Parrish:)
Autographed on the 1 and the 5 with 1979 M.V.P.(team,he finished in balloting for National that year,Stagrell/Hernandez)
It is currently my Avitar:dance

I myself own balls signed by Paul Lo Duca, Sandy Koufax, and Frank Howard. Lo Duca I got a few weeks ago when he was at store. Koufax was at some expo in Long Island years ago. Howard I got when I was about 4. He called out to my dad to bring me down to the front row and signed a game ball and gave it to me.

My dad has a really big collection of autographed balls. Most of which he got from the BAT show. He also has a poster of the 69 Mets that he got signed by most of the team (coaches and players).

I'm hoping to get some more autographed balls myself. A Seaver and Martinez ones are at the top of my wish list.

Sports: Triple signed Bears helmet of Singletary, Sayers, and Butkus.

Baseball: 1971 strikeout leaders card. Signed by Bill Stoneman (TTM) and Fergie Jenkins, who really liked me, and I woulda had Tom Seaver at Sportsfest 06, but cancelled because of his 40th wedding anniversary.

I have a bunch of dual sigs that I got TTM that probably aren't valueable, but I treasure them nonetheless:

1993 Topps Sparky Anderson/Art Howe
1993 Topps Gold Tony LaRussa/Jim Leyland
1985 Topps Father-Son Vern Law/Vance Law
1987 Fleer Sensational Southpaws Fernando Valenzuela/John Franco
2004 Topps Elizardo Ramirez/Ryan Madson
2005 Topps Gold Guillermo Quiroz/Gabe Gross

In terms of valuable TTM sucesses (if they are authenticated), I've gotten:

Jason Giambi
Al Kaline
George Kell
Buck O'neil
Chien-Ming Wang
Felix Hernandez

Other prized possession are:

Rochester Red Wings ball signed by Mike Mussina
8x10 signed by Cal Ripken, Jr.
8x10 signed by Rollie Fingers
Piece of paper my Aunt got signed for me by Yogi Berra, on a flight from Chicago to Houston in Aug 1992, she kept to pen too which I still have.

Yeah, none of these can compare to the Ted Williams/Mickey Mante autographs that you guys might have, BUT I do have a football signed by the entire 1984 49ers team. It was a gift to my late Grandfather from former Cornell runningback Derrick Harmon. I want to throw it on eBay with a ridiculous reserve price just to see how high the bidding gets.

Tough question.

I'd have to say my favorite is a toss up between a Bobby Doerr autographed post-it-note (back story: I sent a card to him in the mail and he returned it with a post-it on it saying "This is not (autographed) Bobby Doerr". The reason he di this was the card was not of bobby doerr, it said his name on it, but the card was misprinted with someone elses photo. So instead of autographing it, he attached the post-it-note. I think it is great because it is so original.

My second favorite is my most recent autograph of Carl Yastrzemski. He autographed a three piece section of a Donruss card puzzle. It looks amazing when put together.

Other favorites:
John Havlichek/Tommy Heinsohn autographed basketball
Stan Musial
Johnny Bench
Whitey Ford
Yogi Berra
Muhammad Ali

I guess I have a few things:
For just one card I guess it'd be an UD Jaromir Jagr Game Jersey Patch card that my dad pulled (1-7,500 packs). I'm not sure what it's worth but last time I checked Beckett listed it as $650. I don't really care for Jagr so it's only cool because of its value. Plus this is hockey and although I like hockey, baseball is number 1.

For stuff I actually care about, I'd have to say my autographed photos are my favorites and they hang on my bedroom wall. The only deceased player I have is Hal Newhouser so that's pretty cool. My other favorites are Mickey Lolich inscribed 1968 WS MVP, Al Kaline, and an Ernie Harwell photo signed TTM. My favorite photo is probably the 16X20 Gordie Howe photo I have which he inscribed Mr. Hockey. Howe is my third favorite athlete of all-time so that will remain my favorite until I get #2 (a Bobby Layne photo signed in a Lions uniform) or #1 (a Ty Cobb signed anything).

For baseballs, my favorite (and only one) is a Denny McLain AL ball (it's not the correct AL President for his era though, those are expensive) signed Denny Mclain 31-6, 1968.

My favorite part of my collection; however, would probably be my Detroit Lions cards. Since I was about 15 (I'm almost 20 now) I've been collecting team sets. I have every Topps card from 1956 to the present (not inserts or anything like that, just the standard base cards and SPs). Since the Lions are awful none of those cards are all that valuable but some were rather difficult to acquire. I also have the Philadelphia cards from the 1960s when Topps only did the AFC. I'm working on a similar Tigers set and 1948-1955 Lions Bowman (and Leaf when available) sets. I need only Doak Walker to complete 1950.

My prized possession is a OMLB ball that is signed by Jose Lopez Of the Seattle Mariners. The reason this is my fav is that My wife and two sons went to see the Mariners play last fathers day and it was also little league day so we were allowed to go down on the field. While doing our parade around the field The Mariners marketing manager stopped us while we were trying to get Felix Hernandez's attention He saw that all of us were decked out in M's attire and asked if My oldest son who had just turned 7 could throw our the first pitch to me for fathers day.....I couldnt believe it but definatley said yes! So we were allowed to go in the M's green room so my son could throw a ball around for the pitch we then were allowed to meet Jose who later became an all star and get 4 baseballs signed by him. Then my two sons went out on the mound and threw out the Ceremonial first pitch. The Moose called it a strike even though it bounced about 6 ft from the plate and was a foot off the plate. I will never forget that day nor will my wife or kids. Just an amazing day! and a wonderful memory!:D
