I sense the need for a convert! It should be as important to see those games for her as it is for you! Take her to the Jake and the Friendly Confines, and while in Chi-Town, find something she wants to do...
Let's put it this way: I go to her quilt shows and Freaking Shopping Malls, and she goes to my ballgames. She, having seen only one game before we got married -- in the red seats at Riverfront Stadium -- wasn't looking forward to doing "my" thing, but was willing to go along. After seeing a game in box seats at Tiger Stadium it was a whole different story. Now we both look forward to our annual Detroit trip.
Likewise, your favorite teams' parks are great places to go. Get her to look forward to it as much as you do!

I hope next summer, but it might be 2008....or I might procrastinate too long, like I did with Montreal, and never get there. But Yankee Stadium certainly holds a stronger call with it's magnificent history than Olympic Stadium did. And I won't even have to go to another country....well, sort of not.:laugh
What was going on in Corning - the glass factory? Great place to visit. And all the wineries around the Finger Lakes aren't bad, either. Too bad I didn't know you were coming through - could have at least met you at I86 and Rt. 60 and met another Fever Fan!! Sure hope you didn't go up into that mess at Buffalo over the weekend, although from your previous post sounds like maybe you did. We've had those storms in April and October before down here, but never that much snow so early!:(

If you're a Lucille Ball fan, she was born in Jamestown. We have a Lucy/Desi Museum, a gift shop (I understand they receive orders from all over the world), and hold two Lucy festivals every year: on Memorial Day weekend every year, as well as on the anniversary of Lucy's birth (early August). She is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Jamestown.
We have also hosted the Babe Ruth World Series several times, both the 13 year old and 16 to 18.
Hope you had a good visit at the Corning factory. Great place to visit. Did you bring a carload of the $teuben Crystal home??$$$:p

Nah..she likes baseball...just not a fanatic like me. She refuses to watch it on TV unless i tie her down. She likes going to games though. SHe has been with me in Seattle, COmiskey, Miller Park and Cincy. She balked at the idea of getting married in Wrigley Field (if I could swing it) Jacobs Filed is starting to do that this year, but she doesnt lke the ideea of a wedding in a Bseball park. You folks really put me to shame. I'm a die-hard baseball fan but hae only ben to a few ballparks in my life.
Memorial Stadium (Baltimore) > Countless times. Grew up in Pa about 50 miles from Baltimore.
Oriole Park at Camden Yards > Several times. Great ballpark. Saw Yankees there one time. I swear there was more fans wearing Yankee gear than Oriole gear.
Tiger Stadium (Detroit) > 1968 with my parents. Saw a DH with Yankees. Left game, walking to car parked blocks away. People carrying all sorts of stuff everywhere. Figured there must be a yard sale going on nearby. Got back to motel in Dearborn to discover it was beginning of civil unrest. Stuck in town for three days with a curfew of 6PM.
Connie Mack Stadium (Philadelphia) > Early 1960's. Played Milwaukee Braves in a night game. Steepest steps I've ever seen. My Mom was almost afraid to walk to her seat. Stadium was detoriating badly. Smelled awful. Wound up getting lost in North Philly trying to find Ben Franklin Parkway after the game after midnight.
Minor League ballparks in Richmond, Va; York, Pa; Charlotte, NC (actually ballpark is in SC just over the state line); and Kannapolis, NC (home of Single A 'Intimidators' farm club of WSox).
Toured Astrodome while Astros were on the road.

How are the ballparks in Charlotte and Kannapolis? My daughter lives in the area. I wanted to get to both when I was down there last month (season was over, but when is that ever a good reason to miss seeing a ballpark!;) ), but I just couldn't get to them. I hope to make it the next time I'm down there.

Catcher, the ballpark for the AAA affiliate is pretty nice. It's just off I77 as I mentioned actually in South Carolina. Well maintained, clean, ample parking, playgound for kids, lots of concessions, good seating close to the field, and friendly fan oriented environment. The food is varied and moderately priced.
However, there is a movement afoot to build a stadium downtown (or as Charlotte refers to it, uptown). The reasoning is that the current park is too far out to be a good draw.
The Kannapolis park for the class A affiliate is small but cozy. Not many frills but fan friendly, with some activities besides the baseball game. They do quite a bit with local kids leagues allowing them on the field before the games and running out to their postions with the Kannapolis team. The players always seem to actually talk to and enjoy that.
Limited selection of concessions. Ample parking except for 7/4 when overflow ends up on the grass areas.
This area has other Minor League teams as well as throughout the state.
Unfortunately, I don't think MLB would thrive here. The area likes it's baseball, with so many Minor League affiliations around the state. But our major cities are spread throughout the state such as Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, Fayetteville, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to try and get to those parks next time I'm down to visit.
Kannapolis sounds a lot like our short season A league affiliate here in Jamestown. The kids go out to the positions with the players before the game for the national anthem, and they let the kids run the bases after a lot of home games. Decent concessions and free parking.

I've been to Memorial Stadium, RFK, Camden Yards, the Metrodome, PNC Park, Jacobs Field, Great American Ball Park, and Citizens Bank Park. I've never seen a game at Skydome or Petco, but I've been to both of those parks.
DC's home for me, so I get out to RFK as much as I can. I hit Jacobs, PNC, Great American and Citizens on a road trip vacation earlier this year. At some point, I'd like to do the same with the New York teams and Boston.

Cheers all for a superb thread. I posted early on and still have my head up high with 33 major league parks under my belt (including all 28 in 1996). List with some memories:
Exhibiton Stadium, Toronto- During my first ballgame in 1981, Otto 'the Swatto' Velez knocked out two dingers. Seen many games there and now own my old seat.
Tiger Stadium, Detroit- Had a personal tour of the park by the legendary Ernie Harwell
Comisky Park, Chicago
County Stadium, Milwaukee
Metrodome, Minneapolis
Kauffman Stadium, KC
Busch Stadium, St. Louis - ended up living here for five years and most recently saw a terrible world series game 3
Coors Field, Denver - my favorite of the newbies
Astrodome, Houston
Ballpark in Arlington - my first July 4th
Jack Murphy Stadium, San Diego - best hot dog in all of baseball served up by Randy Jones himself
Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles - saw an 18 inning classic against the Braves
Candlestick Park, San Francisco
Anaheim Stadium, Anaheim
Oakland Coliseum, Oakland
Kingdome, Seattle
Wrigley Field, Chicago - in the span of an inning, I saw all of American baseball defined: the Cubs blow a lead with a dinger to left thrown back and Harry Carry singing the 7th inning stretch
Riverfront, Cincinnati
Jacobs Field, Cleveland
Camden Yards, Baltimore
Fenway, Boston - #1 in the majors. went to the game with stats legend Pete Palmer. what an incredible guy!
Yankee Stadium, New York- Mickey Mantle Memorial Day
Shea Stadium, New York
Three Rivers, Pittsburgh
Skydome, Toronto - saw over 150 games here. Most memorable at bat was Jimmy Key strking out Jose Canseco in the 13th inning to preserve a tie. Had to be a 20 pitch at bat. Also saw Big Mac hit the 4th deck thanks to a Mike Flanagan meatball. I guess Joe Carter's homerun was also quite memorable!!
Olympic Stadium, Montreal
Veterans Stadium, Philadelphia
Joe Robbie Stadium, Miami
Fulton-County Stadium, Atlanta
PNC Park, Pittsburgh
Turner Field, Atlanta
Miller Park, Milwaukee
Great American Ballpark, Cincinnati
That makes 33. Still to go are new parks in: Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Houston, Detroit, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Tampa Bay. That would mean 8 more to go.
Good luck all!!!
Great work......makes my 18 look like a piker.......have you gone to old abandoned sites as well ?

1. Fenway....been to over 200 games there....magical setting and the new ownership has actually made it better
2. Camden.......loved the whole experience, a newer park with great site lines , an old park feel and the babe stuff so close
3. PNC.......cool location...old park feel
4. Wrigley.......it need some updating but still a great pure ballpark experience
5. Jacobs....a great experience, but night time sitelines on first base side had sunset glare for first three innings
6. citizens bank in philly....I really liked this park a lot, except for the presence of philly fans...so jaded, but who can blame them.....great bleacher seating....maybe the best
7. old Comiskey....it was a mess, but an historic mess, artificial turk in the infield, grass in the outfield...but i loved the exploding scoreboard, the picnic area in center field, watching through the outfielders legs in the pavillion
8. Great american.......one of my lesser stars of the new parks...but clean.....cool explosions from the riverboat.....and perhaps if there had been people there a good venue
9. Turner field...overpriced but nice, great museum....kids areas are distracting but great for newest fans
10. Busch stadium ...saw it in it's last year...but a vibrant crowd, some way cool bleachers seats w/ actually shade made it a fun experience
11. Skydome.....dome was open, a beautiful night.....great asian women....great city, but knowledge of fans and size of stadium lessened experience
12. miller park....an impressive architechtural site, but a vast stadium with sitelines like the old cookie cutters.......made you feel far away.....
13. Pro player.....actually enjoyed this park but thought i wasn't supposed to
designed for football, but i like how it played for watching a ballganme
14. Memorial Stadium in baltimore......the best infield practice I ever witnessed....Brroks, belanger, Gritch and May////park was old when i saw it...view was only so so....
15. Us Cellular.....the rudest stadium personnel ever, made experience not fan friendly......would think when competing as second team in town it would have been different....far away from field
16. DC Stadium.......old coookie cutter .....but saw my first all star game there and had a great time with my adult kids last year....experiences better than ballpark
17 Tropicana field////indoor baseball.....what can i say......did see the best game i ever witnessed here...near Pedro no/no....beanbrawl.......near cycle by Everett
18 Veterans in philly....nose bleed city...players looked liked mice they were so far away....old cookie cutter....everything that was wrong with the old NL
parks

2.Shea Stadium(Only go to Shea when I get free tickets. My best friend was shown on the jumbotron and I saw a walkoff HR win for the Mets :()
3.Fendway Park((Nice...but I hate how close the seats are to each other)
4.Camden Yards(Great stadium. I went there for a Yankee game over the summer. 75 percent of the fans were Yankee fans. The street vendors were even Yankee fans. It is so fun to chant your teams name in someone elses ballpark)
This got me to thinking
New York - Shea Stadium
New York - Yankee Stadium
Philadelphia - Veterans Stadium
Baltimore - Camden Yards
Boston - Fenway Park
Chicago - Wrigley Field
Cleveland - Jacobs Field

Major League Parks:
Memorial Stadium, Baltimore--Saw my first game here. Great park; very unprententious and seemingly unremarkable at first, but it's location in the middle of a residential neighborhood far from any major highways made it a unique setting to see a game. Despite OPACY's greatness, real O's fans still miss the days at old Memorial Stadium.
Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore--Us Orioles fans are spoiled. We really do have a classic on our hands. It's been copied a lot since it opened, but there ain't nothing like the real thing, baby.
Dolphins Stadium, Miami--Don't laugh when I say I enjoy going here, but I do. Sure, it's a football stadium and sure the crowds are often a lot smaller than they should be, especially given the fact the Marlins have actually fielded some good teams over the years. But what makes this park great is the postseason, which I got to experience firsthand in 2003. There is nothing like 65,000 screaming, towel-waving fans. I still get chills thinking about watching Pudge Rodriguez single home the tying and winning runs with two outs and two strikes in the 11th inning in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Giants. The place went unbelievably nuts after that happened.
Minor League Parks
The Diamond, Richmond--My friends and I enjoyed going to games here during summer vacation.
Prince Georges Stadium, Bowie--The closest pro stadium to where I grew up.
Wolfson Park, Jacksonville--Old home of the Jacksonville Suns, now a parking lot.
Baseball Grounds at Jacksonville--New home of the Jacksonville Suns. A great, great park--probably the best minor league park I've been to. The fans getting pretty into the action here for a minor league team.
Roger Dean Stadium, Jupiter--Hosts the Palm Beach Cardinals and Jupiter Hammerheads teams, as well as Marlins and Cardinals spring training.
Jackie Robinson Stadium, Daytona Beach--Stopped by here on a whim when I was driving from South Florida to St. Augustine and watched an inning.
Spring Training Parks:
Fort Lauderdale Stadium--First saw a game here when it hosted the Yankees, I have seen several games since when it has been home of the Orioles. For someone who grew up an Orioles fan, it's great to have them train a half hour from where I now live. Happy to know they will be staying there.
Municipal Stadium, West Palm Beach--I saw a spring training game here with my dad and we caught a foul ball. Sadly, they tore down this stadium to put up a Home Depot.
College Parks:
Melching Field at Conrad Park, Deland--Home of my alma matter, the Stetson University Hatters. Built when I was attending there. A very nice ballpark for a college team, probably up to Single A specs actually. I would take my books and study in the stands while also catching a game.
I have also stopped by a few parks without going to a game there, including: Tropicana Field, Tampa Bay; White Stadium, Port St. Lucie; Holman Stadium, Vero Beach; Capital City Stadium, Columbia; Spacecoast Stadium, Melbourne; Cocoa Expo, Cocoa Beach; Five County Stadium, Zebulon; Riddle Stadium, Fayetteville; Applebees Park, Lexington; Cardinals Stadium, Louisville; Purdue Stadium, Salisbury; Grove Stadium, Frederick; and probably one or two others that are escaping me.

Speaking of which, my wife got me a cool map for Christmas, along with oversized thumbtacks. I've made ends for the thumbtacks and am using them to mark the ballparks I've been to.
I have small blue tacks too, that I'll be using for the minor league parks.

Dont get your hopes up too much... The ushers make you stay far away from players on Nats side and you feel kind of boxed in. The cool thing though, is that the concrete sounds kind of hollow so if you bang your feet there will be loud noises made-- perfect to throw off an opposing team's player

Good question!:laugh My extraordinary psychic ability would have to be put on high alert. Remember, Lily Dale, the Spiritualist capital of the world and a psychic center, is located only 20 miles from me! Actually, next time you're coming through Chautauqua County on I86 (I know you did last summer or fall),let me know and I'll meet you at Exit 12. It'd be neat to find out who I've been corresponding with for what - three years now, via these boards.

Agreed, and most of the major cities on the east coast have the same problem in the summer. If you've got a night game, it'll probably be OK. When I do my ballpark tour, I'm going to try and catch the southern, southeastern, and southwestern teams in the early spring or in September. I'll try to do the midwest in June, july or August - night games are usually perfect that time of year in those locations (Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit). Of course, being semi-retired now is a huge advantage in that respect.;)

I keep a running total here (http://stateofmain.livejournal.com/57177.html).
I was only introduced to baseball in 2002, so I feel like I am so behind and need to catch up!!
This is our Total Stadium Count:
Number of Stadiums:* 23
MLB = 9
AAA = 5
AA = 1
A = 6
Rookie = 1
Obscure = 1
[Retired but Still Standing:** 3]
*- We ONLY count stadiums that we've seen games at. We've visited many stadiums in the off-season (Tri-City Valley Cats, Rochester Red Wings, Durham Bulls, Myrtle Beach Pelicans, etc.) but we still intend to go back and see a game there.
**- Retired stadiums are ones that we did not see a game at, but the facility was still standing at the time. They are not counted toward the final total for this reason.

We did Reds @Boston in 2005 (first time that they had played each other since the '75 WS), so it's not on our list. I hate the Red Sox, but LOVED Fenway. Thought the whole atmosphere was great.

I don't actually remember the first stadium that I went to as a very young lad. It was probably Yankee Stadium or Ebbetts Field. I do remember seeing the players come off the field after a very long time and telling my Father that we could go home now. His reply? "That was only batting practice!" We always got our moneys worth, Sunday or Holiday doubleheaders. Only once do I remember going to a single game with him.
Stadiums that I do remember...most of them as an adult

Iowa Cubs Stadium
Riverfront Park Newark, NJ
Campbell Field Camden NJ
The stadium that the Lehigh Valley Black Diamonds played in. Small wooden grandstand- double header- one of the best days we ever spent at a ballpark.

Mets Fan Since 62 - Very nice list. A lot of those that no one can go to any longer for the obvious reason that they're gone! The only old ballparks I made it to were Forbes Field in Pittsburgh and Municipal Stadium in Cleveland. Dad took us to one ballgame each summer, and we got to choose Cleveland or Pittsburgh, because they were the closest to home! I did see the Polo Grounds (and Yankee Stadium) while driving into New York City in the early 60s, and there was even a Mets game going on at Polo. But never made it inside. Hope to get to Yankee Stadium for a game this year or next.

My list isn't that impressive but here it goes:
Minor Leagues:
1. Rayley Field - Sacramento (one time, can't remember year)
Major Leagues:
1. Dodger Stadium (twice in 1997 but I was only 10 so I don't count it)
2. McAfee Coliseum (first game: 2006)

I'm only 19 hence my poor list. 2007 should be better:
I have tickets to:
1. Angels Stadium
2. Petco Park
I have season tickets (!!!) to:
1. Dodger Stadium (I'm a Tigers fan so hopefully Det-LAD WS)
I am 80% certain I will make it to:
1. Comerica Park August, 2007 (I'll also stop by the Corner of Michigan and Trumbull to see Tiger Stadium/whatever is left)
If I make it to Detroit, I'm 50% certain I'll make it to:
1. Wrigley Field
There's also a slight chance at:
1. Rogers Centre
2. Great American Ball Park
3. Jacobs Field

5. State College, PA - Medlar Field at Lubrano Park -home field for the State College Spikes from the New York/Penn League and for Penn State University's baseball team. Saw two games (doubleheader) there when Penn State was playing.

Incidentally, if drivebys count, I can add the Polo Grounds, Yankee Stadium, Crosley Field and Turner Field to my list. Have driven past all of them but haven't been in them.
I did add Knights Field, home of the Charlotte Knights, in Fort Mill, South Carolina while on vacation a couple of weeks ago. Stopped to see it, but couldn't attend the nights game - had to go. The field is nicely set up - you actually enter into the upper deck from the parking area, and the field is set down in a hollow. And the baseball water tower adds a nice touch, too.

I'm driving up the coast next week and was wondering if there are any good bars or restaurants to hit up before and after the game. Is it the BART public transit that goes from Union Square to the park? Any info would be fantasitc.
Thanks

I have been to:
Oriole Park at Camden Yards
RFK
Fenway Park
Citizens Bank Ball Park

I've not been to many stadiums but they have included some good ones:
Fenway
Dodger Stadium
Yankee Stadium
PNC Park, Pittsburgh
Comerica Park, Detroit
Miller Park, Milwaukee (it's good in the cold and rain anyway)
and a couple of cookie cutters:
The Vet, Philly
Shea Stadium
Sadly no Wrigley yet. And where have I been to the most games? P and C (now Alliance Bank) Stadium Syracuse, home of the (Sky) Chiefs.

Well, got back from my tournament in Akron. We saw the Indians/D-Rays game at Jacobs Field. Was I impressed with that ballpark. I loved every minute there, especially heckling Jonny Gomes ( he went 1 for 4 with 3 K's, and looked over about 4 or 5 times lol).
We were going to go to a Pirates game on the way up but didn't have time.

Too bad. If you were impressed with The Jake (and rightfully so), you'd have been blown away by PNC. I loved The Jake, but it immediately took the back seat when I went to PNC!

I have been to many games at Dunn Tire Park in Buffalo, NY. I saw my first Major League game at Jacobs Field on August 3, 2005. The Tribe beat the Yankees, 7-4. I still have the ticket and program from that game.

I've been to Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium, and Citizens Bank Ballpark. And I've also seen games in the minor league stadium Keyspan Park in Coney Island. I have to admit though, I've been to more games at Shea than Yankee Stadium. Yankee Stadium is too expensive, and when your 17 with no job it's very hard to get tickets. I go to a game at Shea at least once year cause my aunt, who's a Mets fan, buys tickets and she invites me. I'll never say no to a ballgame, usually I just sit there and root for whoever is winning.

Having never been to any of them, I can't say for sure. But based on what I've read and the photos I've seen, I think I'd tend to agree with that based upon my limited knowledge of those parks.

PNC is easily the best I've been too just for a great day out (ignoring the history, quality of the teams, rooting interest, company etc.). No-one will be disappointed on a sunny day.

Just edited my original list. Went to Jacobs Field today, and I was impressed. I am having a hard time deciding which park is better, Jacobs Field or Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Too close to call. Defintely, those two along with PNC Park are the top 3 overall in my opinion.

Hi guys, my first post! I just found this forum from a link posted in a golf game forum. I am a big baseball fan, and a big baseball card collector. Anyway, I have seen games in:
Yankee Stadium (versions from the 1950's thru 2006)
Shea Stadium
Fulton County Stadium (where the Braves used to play)
Tropicana Field (Tampa Bay)
Dolphins Stadium (formerly Pro Player and Joe Robbie, the Marlins)
Both stadiums in Arlington, old and new (Texas Rangers)
Houston Astrodome
New Comiskey
Wrigley Field
also:
Miami Stadium (spring training for the Orioles)
Ft. Lauderdale Stadium (spring training for the Yankees)
The stadium I believe its in Port St Lucie where the Mets do spring training

Okay, I am psyched. I have two trips planned this year to see 4 more parks. I'm up to 12 already, and if I can, I would squeeze in another trip to see 6 instead of 4.
My list of ones seen:
Fenway
Wrigley
Shea
SkyDome
Camden
Citizens
PNC
Jacobs
Great American
Comerica
Chase Field
Dodger Stadium
Planned for '08:
Yankee Stadium
Nationals Park
Ballpark in Arlington
Minute Maid Park
Miller Park (tentative)
US Cellular (tentative)
or
PacBell (tentative)
Oakland Coliseum (tentative)
The last 4 depend on if a friend takes the 2nd Southwest voucher I am getting. If not, I am gonna try to do 2 more. I'd probably do the latter since they're harder for me to get to. Not to mention I have a place to crash in San Fran if I go! Woot!

I've also walked past/stood above/seen the SkyDome/Rogers Center, Riverfront Stadium in Newark, NJ, Cooper Stadium in Columbus, OH, and Engel Field in Chattanooga, TN, but never have attended a game at any of those.
Out of all these parks, I've been to Yankee Stadium 15 times, Shea Stadium 4 times (I believe), the Ballpark at Harbor Yard way too many times to count (I held a partial season ticket package there for many years), and all the others only once.

Ballparks I've been to:
Yankee Stadium

Fenway Park
the Triple H dome (where the Twins play) I know it's called the Metrodome, but for some strange reason, my ticket said the Triple H dome.
I was also at that field next to the Hall of Fame. I forgot the name of it. Me and my brother just walked in while there was a game going on. We were really nervous because we thought we had to pay, and there was nowhere to buy tickets or pay. We had no money on us, too. It was a Mets farm team vs another farm team, I forgot who.
Ballparks I'd like to go to:
Camden Yards
Jacobs Field
Nationals Park
Dodger Stadium
Turner Field
The Big BOB (Or whatever the Diamondbacks are calling their stadium these days)
Safeco Field (the home of Wrestlemania XIX)
Future stadiums I KNOW I'm gonna eventually go to (because I live in New York)

That's because it's named after former Vice President/Senator Hubert H. Humphrey. Many Twins fans call it the 'Hump Dome.'

That's because it's named after former Vice President/Senator Hubert H. Humphrey. Many Twins fans call it the 'Hump Dome.'
Oh, I thought it was named after Triple H, the wrestler. Seriously, that's who I thought it was named after.

Doubleday Field, named after the alleged inventor of baseball, Gen. Abner Doubleday. One of the most beautifully situated small ballparks in existence!
Ballparks I'd like to go to:
Camden Yards
Jacobs Field
Nationals Park
Dodger Stadium
Turner Field
The Big BOB (Or whatever the Diamondbacks are calling their stadium these days)
Safeco Field (the home of Wrestlemania XIX)
Whatever you do, don't miss going to PNC Park in Pittsburgh. The best ballpark there is in the majors today, IMHO. And if you look back through this thread, you'll see I'm not alone.:twocents:

I have been at over 40 Dodgers games at Dodger Stadium from 1975 through 2007. I was at a San Diego Padres/Seattle Mariners baseball game at Safeco Field during June 2000 the San Diego Padres beat the Seattle Mariners 7 to 4 in Seattle for my 1 stime at Safeco Field. I was outside of Yankee Stadium on Wednesday,October 10th,2007 after the Cleveland Indians knocked out the New York Yankees 3 games to 1 game. I bought 1 2008 American League/National League All-star game Blue T-shirt at the Yankee Team store since the players cleaning out thier lockers. Next time I will be inside of Yankee Stadium for 1 or 2 New York Yankees baseball game. My favorite National League team are the Los Angeles Dodgers. And my favorite American League team are the New York Yankees.I am 41. I was born in Los Angeles,CA. on Tuesday,January 10th,1967 9:34 A.M. which says on my birth certificate. I hope I will see the Los Angeles Dodgers to beat the Boston Red Sox on Saturday,March 29th,2008 at the Los Angeles Memorial Colisuem. .:):):):):)

Well, that's the advantage of being relatively old, I guess. :)
I was in Toronto and was supposed to go to Exhibition Stadium, but it was 1981, and they were on strike. And my biggest miss was Ebbetts Field. My sister got to go, but I was still a pre-schooler. That one hurts. :(
I've been in the LA Coliseum, but long after the Dodgers stopped using it, and I was in Houston while the Astros were still in the Astrodome, but not baseball season.
I am in admiration of those guys who have seen 'em all, and they're out there. It's getting to the ones that are remote from you that are tough. I would have to make a real effort to see Tropicana, for instance.

I plan on making it to all of the active ones when my wife retires in a couple of years. The tough ones for me, being in western New York, will be the west coast, Arizona and Colorado - but hey, what better reason to go to those places!
We must be about the same age. I'll be 57 this May. Did I see Cleveland Municipal on your list? That's where I saw my first major league game. Then dad took us to one each summer, either Cleveland or Pittsburgh (hence, Forbes Field).

I've got about 6 months on you.
I got to Cleveland about 1990 or 91. Saw the Yankees paly the Tribe in a double header (remember those?). Everything you need to know: Deion Sanders hit a homer for the Yankees. Didn't do a lot of traveling until the '80's so I didn't see Forbes or Connie Mack, etc. But I married a woman whose idea of a good time includes travelling to a ballgame, so most of those ballparks I've listed have been with her and my kid.

Amazing! How do you get a woman like that? My wife goes to the games, but she really doesn't understand the game, and she sure hasn't ever been the one to suggest going to a ballgame!
ALL my games were Cleveland or Pittsburgh until the late 70s, when I got up to Toronto (Exhibition). So far, those are my only three cities. Surprisingly, although only three cities, it totals seven ballparks! I also drove past Crosley on my trips home from Fort Knox, but never had time to stop and catch a game, so I don't count it. Same thing for New York - was there on a trip as a kid (after going to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown for the first time:dance) and saw both Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds on the way in.

Dumb luck, my friend, dumb luck. True story...in the 1996 World Series I watch Kenny Rogers stake the Braves to a 6-0 lead and figure that's all she wrote, so I go into the bedroom and close the door. A half hour later, my wife, who didn't give up, drags me into the living room in time to see Leyritz hit the tying homer. I got much better than I ever deserved.

Wrigley Field - Nothing beats a game there in the sun...other than one under the stars
Fenway - Just like stepping back in time.
Memorial Stadium - The Royals have some of the best seats and nicest fans
RFK - felt like watching a game played on the streets between the brick houses of th neighborhood
Shea - You know you have are there once you hear your first jet and see that blue train supports in the parking lot
County Stadium - If you approached from the wrong direction it did seem like you were walking up to a very tall sheet metal house just south of the border.
Olympique Stadium - The sound was great, access was easy, and seats were great. That was a bad wrap on that grand place.
Busch III - I just wasn't impressed. I t was neat to climb to the top though and see the Arch.
HHH - It's not a bad place. Just amazingly loud. It was an odd sensation created by that roof design though.
Miller Park - A very nice place, but it always feels like you are inside. And that roof creates a bizzare green tint to everything in the place.
PNC - Really, a generic stadium.
Yankee Stadium - A great place if you like to smell urine, chase rats, and hear some of the most oddly pronouce profanities. All that and you never even have to leave the bleachers.
I've also been to over forty minor league parks.
The must sees are:
Bridgeport, CT
Pawtucket, RI
Appleton, WI
Burlington, VT
and the old Field in Chattanooga, TN
If you like historic fields check out the Yale's in West Haven, CT. Once you sit down though it is nothing much as the history is all behind you assuming you can see it through the never ending repairs to a rotting roof.

PNC - Really, a generic stadium.
I would have to vehemently disagree with you here. This ballpark incorporates the history of the city and the team into the park better than any I've ever been to. The city skyline hanging over right field and the Clemente Bridge in center make this far from generic. Toss in the blue steel girders that reflect the city's steel history and this park is great.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I just believe it is wrong.
Milwaukee T
03-13-2008, 08:06 PM
Let me say that I love Pittsburgh and the people there. I have had no better meals than in some of the family places on the south side. Sitting down either of the lines in the park and looking at the game doesn't really give youmuch of sense of the city. Looking out towrds the river has some great views. Just looking at home plate though; not much there to say wow.
catcher24
03-14-2008, 05:57 PM
You were just in the wrong location. I was in the upper deck, behind home plate, and the view alone was worth the price of admission. But regardless, I still like the interior of the park as well. We'll just agree to disagree.

Agreed. I've never been to the Stadium, but I'm sure it's not the same. Hope to get there this year before it's gone, but I'm not really counting on it.

Each person has a favorite, but I would suggest that Yankee Stadium as it is is not worth the effort. I have lived in the Midwest and grew up a huge baseball fan. I have had a list of must sees since I was little. Fenway, Wrigley, Tiger, Yankee, and Memorial in Baltimore. I moved to New England for a few years and checked Boston and New York off the list and was able to do so a couple of times. Yankee Stadium did nothing for me.
I wanted to see and feel the history and traditon. I love New York City and though Shea was a nice place. I was thinking YS was going to be a lot like Fenway and Wrigley. I was SO wrong. Thos two just ooze tradition from the moment you walk in. YS felt like you were walking into a 1978 NYC buisness. It just didn't feel like there was a past nor that much of a sporting venue.
Then there is the neighborhood that wasn't great, the smells that almost take your breath away on a hot summer night, and the other fans that are either obnoxious due to thier wealth or obnoxious due to excessive drinking.
I realize that it is going away, but if you aren't a nut about wanting to get to every stadium whie they are there; I would say make the trip to Fenway or Wrigley, head to Kansas City or Baltimore.
With all that said: I did make the treck to Montreal just to say that I did and I would be one of those people wishing that I had been to YS just as I still feel about missing out on Tiger Stadium.
If you are going to go with loved ones; Shea is a much better crowd for that setting. A bunch of guys looking for an outing: YS is the place to go.

You were just in the wrong location. I was in the upper deck, behind home plate, and the view alone was worth the price of admission. But regardless, I still like the interior of the park as well. We'll just agree to disagree.
I wanted to take a moment and amend a statement that I had made in the past and to conceed it to you. In the past; we were only able to see games in Pittsburgh from the outfield seats and it really wasn't much of anything. Opening Day I was to see the game the third base side. That place rocks! The view was amazing. I have been to nummerous parks and sat in multiple places at most of them, but I have never seen such a dramatic differance simply based upon the seat.
Please go to Pittsburgh and see this gem.

Thanks for posting that. I agree about the difference in location making a huge difference in the viewing experience at Pittsburgh. If you go there, try to get a seat anywhere from behind home plate down third base side to left field, if you want to appreciate the entire experience. Did you happen to visit the store in the stadium - seems like it was near the gate coming in off the Clemente Bridge - that sells the autographed sports photos/art? It's worth a visit.
For me, part of the PNC experience is approaching the park from across the Clemente Bridge. On game days, they close it and it's a party atmosphere - vendors, musicians. You can look directly in from center field crossing the bridge. You can walk along the river if you want before or after games. And watching the riverboats go up and down the river during games can't be matched at any other park, I don't believe. I simply enjoy the entire experience at PNC.

Here's my list, two I've seen both baseball and football games in.
Shea Stadium
Yankee Stadium
Safeco Field
Kingdome (baseball and football, miserable for both)
Anaheim/Edison/Angel Stadium (pre and post renovation)
Jack Murphy/Qualcomm Stadium (pre and post expansion)
Petco Park (my true home park)
The list isn't that great, especially considering what's been posted, but I at least feel fortunate to have seen baseball on both coasts and, in particular, to have seen two games at Yankee Stadium. My immediate to do list includes Dodger Stadium, Chase Field, and, especially, AT&T Park. When I finally hit up AT&T Park, I'd like to head to the East Bay and see a game at McAfee Coliseum or wherever the A's are playing at the time.

Several minor league parks too.
In order of 1st Attendence
1. Fenway Park:
Highlight - making Reggie Jackson laugh when I heckled him from the RF Grandstand.
Lowlight - Game 7, 75 World Series.
Comment - It is amazing that as a kid I could go to almost any game I wanted to and buy a ticket. the concourse smells like stale beer. Waliing through the portal from the dank concourse to the sea of green is unforgetable.
2. Shea Stadium
Highlight - saw Willie Mays hit a homer
Comment- I was amazed by the size (Fenway being my only point of comparison at the time).
3. Oakland-Alameda Coliseum (Pre Mount Davis)
Comment - Lots of foul territory making the seats (upper deck 1st base side) too distant.
4. Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium
Highlight - Game 7, 1992 NLCS. I remember screaming at people who left early.
Lowlight - Jim Leyritz, 1996 WS.
Comment - Although it looked like a cookie cutter it was most closely related to Oakland in terms of foul territory (Football field went foul to foul pole).
5. Anaheim Stadium (Enclosed version)
Comment - Sat along the RF foul line. Sight lines were great - limited foul territory. It was wierd having a big scoreboard mounted above home plate.
6. Dodger Stadium
Comment - Great layout, although there was more foul territory than I expected. No out of town scoreboard. Laid back crowd.
7. Turner Field
Highlight - Daughter's first game. Braves beat the Red Sox in extra innings on the 4th of July.
Lowlight - Saw the Braves lose two playoff series.
Comment - It's a big park (50,000 seats). I like that it is not gimmicky (Minute Maid Park) and it is fair to both pitchers and hitters. Designers did a great job considering it was once the Olympic Stadium.
8. Wrigley Field
Comment - Much better than Fenway. It might be considered an apostacy but my only complaint is with the scoreboard. It does not tell you how many errors there are nor is there any line-up listing. Go to a day game (which I did) and 80% of the board is for out-of-town games that all start at night. Fenway does a great job providing info to the fans - Wrigley should to.

Major leagues
Wrigley Field - Cramped and old but looking out at the field from your seat is about as good as it gets. Really close to the field. Lots of places to go to before and after the game
Comiskey Park - Also old but bigger than Wrigley. Great site lines and you were right on top of the field for a big park. Kind of like Tiger Stadium in many ways.
U.S.Cellular Field - Much better after renovations. Nice wide concourses and real restrooms compared to the old parks here. Should have had the outfield facing downtown for a better view. Mores bars and food in the area would be nice. Under rated.
County Stadium - Old but a nice park. Still reminds me of Wrigley in a way due to the upper deck where I sat twice.
Miller Park- Nice and clean but feels a little dark to me. Don't like the glass in the outfield too much.
Bush Stadium - Okay for a cookie cutter but very different than what I was used to in Chicago.
Minor Leagues
Harbor Park (Norfolk Tides Class AAA) Norfolk Va. - Nice park with a cool upper deck down the lines.
Slugger Field (Louisville Bats Class AAA) Louisville KY. - Really liked this place. Almost major league feel and a great view of the Louisville skyline.
Elfstrom Stadium (Kane County Cougers Class A) Geneva Il. - Very good for A ball and a great time for the money. Baseball at its purest.

I have only been to the Skydome in Toronto quite some time ago and the ballpark was incredible. The seats we had were in the upper deck so the view was not so great. Juan Guzman was pitching and he was their dominant pitcher back then.

I've added a couple of minor league parks since I last posted in this thread, so I'll list out mine again in chronological order with my own ratings ( and with minor league parks in italics)...
Municipal Stadium (Kansas City Royals) - ca. 1970. I have no memory of this at all since I was only three years old, but I thought I'd list it anyway since I did go to a game there. But I'm not counting it though...
1. Arlington Stadium (Texas Rangers) 1978-1993 **
2. Candlestick Park (San Franscisco Giants) one game in 1992 ***
3. Shea Stadium (New York Mets) five games from 1992-1993 **
4. Yankee Stadium (New York Yankees) four games from 1992-1993 ****
5. Mile High Stadium (Colorado Rockies) several games 1993-1994 *
6. The Ballpark in Arlington (Texas Rangers) first game ever played and many more thereafter 1994-2008 ***
7. Astrodome (Houston Astros) one game in 1994 **
8. Sky Sox Stadium (AAA - Colorado Springs Sky Sox) two games 1994-1995 ***
9. Coors Field (Colorado Rockies) first game ever played and several more thereafter 1995-2007 ****
10. Bankone Ballpark (now Chase Field) (Arizona Diamondbacks) first game ever played, 1998 ***
11. LaGrave Field (Independent League Fort Worth Cats) 2002-2008 ***
12. Minute Maid Park (Houston Astros) a few games 2004-2008 ***
13. Kauffman Stadium (Kansas City Royals) one game in 2006 ****
14. Quicktrip Park (Independent League Grand Prairie Airhogs) first game ever played, 2008 ***
15. Dr. Pepper Ballpark (AA - Frisco Roughriders) 2008 *****
I made my first trip to Frisco's Dr. Pepper Ballpark this past weekend, and I loved that park. It's too bad that it's so difficult to get out to Frisco from where I live...
