Does anyone know of any photos of football at Ebbets Field? I am interested in seeing how the football field was laid out in Ebbets. Because of it's uniqe demensions, it must have been difficult to put in a football field.

Tony email me and I'll send you a photo of Notre Dame at Ebbets Field. It will be in my book (out in a few days).

I don't have any photos but, for football games at EBBETS FIELD in the late 1940s, the field ran from the First Base line to Left field with the sidelines being along the Third Base line on one side and Right Field on the other. Seats on the 50 yard line would've been along the Third Base line a little behind the infield dirt.

Thank you Bkyln boy. Did they add seating of any kind or was it the regular seating?

I don't recall any additional seats being added for the Football games. I don't think that the attendence warranted additional seats.
By the way, I witnessed those Footbal games from the roof of EBBETS FIELD. I got there by helping the News Photogs carry their equipment into EBBETS FIELD, up to the roof and then helping them set up. In addition, I would run errands for them to get refeshments, etc. ... mostly hot chocolate, coffee or hot soup.

It's funny, they were able to fit a football field into tiny Ebbets Field, but couldn't figure out how to fit a baseball field into the huge LA Coliseum.

Can anyone furnish a color photo of a Brooklyn Football Dodger in uniform?
Or can anyone describe the uniform colors?
I have been searching the net for some time, but have yet to find a color photo, so thanks in advance.

I will look to see if I have one. I can imagine that since most football teams back in the 20s-40s "borrowed" their pro-baseball counterpart's team names that they would have also borrowed their colors.
I know for sure that the Brooklyn Football Dodgers wore white, I would guess the other color would have been Dodger blue. But I will look and see what I can find.

After the football team left Brooklyn where did they go? Do they have any roots with an NFL team today? :atthepc

The Brooklyn Dodgers were an American Football team which was a member of the NFL from 1930 to 1943, and in 1944 as the Brooklyn Tigers. In 1945, due to financial difficulties, the team was merged with the Boston Yanks. It was also the name of an All-America Football Conference franchise from 1946 to 1948. The NFL had cancelled owner Dan Toppings' NFL franchise and given the players to the Boston Yanks after Topping announced that he was jumping to the rival league. Both franchises used Ebbets Field as their home grounds (as did the baseball team of the same name). ). ...
Another NFL teams in Brooklyn was the Brooklyn Lions (1926). The Brooklyn Lions were an NFL team in 1926. ...

Ebbets Field Brooklyn November 24, 1940: Ace Parker of the Brooklyn Dodgers eleven is shown scampering thirty yards with a kick return against the Chicago Cardinals. Coach Jock Sutherland's Dodgers beat the Cardinals 14-9 with Parker throwing a touchdown pass, rushing for the other touchdown and kicking both extra points. Triple Threat! (Corbis)

Absolutely--the Indianapolis Colts! After the '45 season the Dodgers NFL team was dissolved and its players were awarded to Dan Topping's new team in the All-America Footbal Conference--the New York Yankees, who became the Boston-New York Yankees, who became the Dallas Texans, who became the Baltimore Colts, who became Super Bowl LXI's winner. Mind you, the genealogy is not exactly pure. It sometimes required dissolutions and subsequent reassignments.
Go Dodgers/Colts!!

Interesting connection. Also, for the last several seasons it has been "Wait till next year" for Peyton Manning and the Colts!

Not only was Ebbets Field home of the gridiron Dodgers, but college football games were played there as well. Here is a shot of a mid-1930s game between the Manhattan Jaspers and the Villanova Wildcats. The referee resembles Babe Ruth! (Corbis)

If only Ace Parker had played in the NL during his two years in major-league baseball (1937-38). Then he could have appeared at Ebbets both on the diamond and gridiron. Ernie Nevers and Red Badgro, two other two-sport players, also both played only in the AL. Chuck Dressen was too early for the football Dodgers and Vic Janowicz was too late. Maybe there is an answer to this question...apologies if it's already been covered.

Possibly Steve Filipowics who was an outfielder with the 44-45 Giants. Two other very outside possibilities are Andy Tomasic who pitched 2 games with the 1949 Giants and Walt Masters who pitched one game for the 1937 Phils.
Interestingly at least 2 Dodgers--Ox Eckhardt and Chuck Gorgan played in the NFL

Great thought, but no go on Filipowicz -- I checked the schedule for the New York football Giants for his two years in the NFL (1945-46) as well as Bob McGee's book on Ebbets. The football Dodgers were gone after 1944 anyway, and when they reappeared in 1946, it was in the AAFC.

I thought that political commentary was banned here.
Why do those in charge here find it necessary to remove any comment that calls into question their intellectual honesty?
What is posted above is ONE HALF of what I wrote.

So you're going to look at an April 2005 post about Marilyn Monroe and Bush and call that political commentary? Look, it seemed like a joking reference, since a late superstar actress would obviously have no bearing upon who becomes the President of the United States. I'm not too sure that would even be a fully political comment or criticism of the current Presidential Administration, moreso than a joking political reference.
When you mess up (by not enforcing your own rules), it's better to fess up.
If you making a joking reference that Marilyn Monroe looks great in Ebbets Field, and that had she not passed on, then other things beyond her control, such as the Dodgers leaving Brooklyn or any US President not having been elected, then I promise you that I won't complain too much. Please make sure that it's the same or a very similar situation. If not, it'll have to be taken on a case-by-case basis.
Now then, if you can get some legitimate cases of politics being allowed here, please do so and PM me when you do. If not, I'd ask you not to go reaching for straws on this.
Thank you very much.

A sidenote to this discussion on the Brooklyn Dodgers football team:
On September 24, 1930, the Portsmouth Spartans hosted the Brooklyn Dodgers, in what was the first night game in NFL History. Portsmouth ( Ohio ), which was in their first season in the NFL, won the game 12-0. The Portsmouth Spartans franchise moved to Detroit in 1934, becoming the Detroit Lions. The only very small market team to survive from the NFL early seasons was the Green Bay Packers.
Interestingly, 77 years later, Spartans Stadium is still used for high school football games.

Before the Brooklyn Dodgers football team came into existance, They were known as the Dayton (Ohio) Triangles. The triangles are credited with playing the first pro football game at Triangle park in Dayton. Sorry, don't remember the year.
