Does anyone know who had the game winning RBI in game five of the 1984 World Series? A box score would be greatly appreciated if available. The game winning RBI went to whomever knocked in the lone run in the bottom of the seventh. Any help will help will be greatly appreciated!

I don't have the box score in front of me, but I believe Marty Castillo got the GWRBI in game five.

If you are looking for the actual stat Game Winning RBI, then you want the guy who hit Gibson in in the fifth. The definition of the old GWRBI stat is that RBI that puts the team ahead for good. The Tigers went up 4-3 in the fiftha and never lost the lead. Yes the Padres later scored a run after the Tigers scored again, but it was that fourth run that put them in the lead for good. The bottom line is that I don't know who knocked in either the fourth or the fifth run.

I do have the box score here from game 5 of 84 world series, and it lists Rusty Kuntz with GWRBI, it lists Kunts with no official at bat.. but with an rbi, and the GWRBI. when tigers took the lead 4-3 in the bot of 5th

Bringing up an ancient thread, I wonder if someone knows what the count was when Tony Gwynn flew out to Larry Herndon in game 5? I can't find it on google, nor does mlb.com have any '84 WS games for purchase...

Rusty Kuntz got the GWRBI on a sacrifice fly. Hit to the second baseman (Wiggins).

Wiggins made an excellent diving catch running away from the plate. Gibson had tagged up and alertly scored on a SF-4.
