Are you kiddin’ ?

I’ll take this over any of his Basement Bertha and the Mets cartoons, anytime.

BTW…….. don’t laugh, but about a month or so a go, the rumor mill had Contreras going to the Mets for Al Leiter.

He's batting .277 so far, so I can't say that this toon is undeserved. On Saturday, he went 2-for-4, 1 run scored, but no RBI. Not bad, but I do hope that he can get 2 hits on Sunday's rubber match.

Is it possible to find a very old one? I am looking for the one that was done shortly after Munson was killed. I used to have it, I don't know what happened to it. How can I find it?

Thanks

I grew up with Bill Gallo. I love everyone of these cartoons. It would be nice if we could find some of the old ones for memory sake to keep this going during the offseason.

Karen,

I've seen Gallo do one of Munson in a pic that appears around August 2nd, where he's looking sadly downward from the heavens, but I don't remember whether this appeared in 1979 or not. I can try digging that up for you, if you'd like.

There was one preceding this (which I'll try finding), where Bertha's going up a mountain in search of something. However, it gave no indication as to which sport was being discussed, as Gallo also draws for football, basketball and boxing. This one's quite clear:

Yes this is the one that originally appeared in 1979. I had it hanging in my room for years. I must have it in a scrapbook or something. If you can find it, that would be awesome!

Thanks

I'll try. I don't quite know where I've put it. I thought I'd had it bookmarked, but it's not on my system. If I come across it again, I'll let you know, but it's been reposted on the Daily News website this season.

Here's a preceder to the one about Basement Bertha climbing the mountain:

No problem, but no guarantees. I can only try.

I don't seem to have that one bookmarked. I should've, but never thought about this.

Gallo's a long-time Yankee fan, and JoeD, I remember, once requested (and of course, received) some prints from a cartoon portrait that Gallo had drawn of him. I wish he hadn't put that out, but it's very relevant, so I've posted that tune here, as well as in the BBF Mets forum thread about Gallo.

More about the playoffs than anything else, but still worthy. No use hiding it someplace where I can't find it later on.

Unfortunately, due to the tragic passing of Cory Lidle, references to Captain Thurm have arisen. It's only a small one, but here's Gallo's famous and touching drawing of Munson:

The play friend of youngster Yuchie, with his bat left on the field by home plate, says, "NAW, YUCHIE — I JUST DON'T FEEL LIKE PLAYIN' BALL TODAY ..."

I was thumbing through the Daily News and it was on pg 62 of Thursday's issue. The Internet version is much smaller, but in the printed version, I was able to read the text.

Yes, this was sadly under less than ideal and very sad circumstances to find this.

R-I-P, Cory Lidle

You're quite welcome, Karen.

I'm new to the forum, but certainly not new to baseball. I grew up in Bklyn and can't remember a day w/out one of the great Bill Gallo's cartoons !

By any chance would you happen to have his HERO/GOAT cartoon series ? You know the one's he would do after a big game or a post season game ?

If you could post some of his top one's here that would be super !

Thanks in advance

I remember those things. He's had it for during the season and postseason. I'm not sure if it's just for the Yanks though, since he also draws for boxing, NBA, NFL, NHL (he had one awesome portrait of Michael Jordan awhile back), and is in the Boxing HoF as a writer (either that or a cartoonist).

If I see one during the regular season and it's posted online, I'll let you know. In addition to the above, Gallo occasionally does the occasional editorial cartoon that's on the same page as the NY Daily News editorial (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ideas_opinions/index.html) (Please see "LATEST CARTOON" for daily changes, which would obviously involve issues well outside of baseball, much less sports).

Here's his latest which includes respects to the very popular player and now broadcaster, Bobby Murcer:

What do half of these mean, if anything...

Why would they roll in their graves if there's also the first inning part?
